I’m thinking about getting a tv to hook up under my patio in the backyard, but I am curious if there’s anything I need to do to protect it? The spot is protected from rain.

Can I just buy a normal tv?

Is there some sort of protective gear I buy for a regular tv?

Do I have to buy a special outdoor tv?

Buy a cheap TV or move an existing TV outside and get a new one

When you can get solid 55 inch TVs for like 300 bucks, TVs are pretty disposable

My experience and the experience of most who post on this topic seem to be that they'll last for at least a couple of years with minimal (if any) protective effort

If you have a flat screen inside that will fit on your patio, upgrade your inside TV and move the old one to the patio.

If its protected from the elements it should work fine.

I've had a cheap arse Vizio on my patio for 5 years now and it's still working like the day I bought it. I don't cover it or anything.

I’ve got a 55 inch insignia outside. It sits under our overhang and gets direct sunlight each afternoon. We have it covered with a cover we bought off amazon. It has worked great for us.

I bought a Sunbrite tv for my outdoor kitchen, its a true completely sealed tv, even the inputs are in a gasket sealed box. Looks like its made for rain and dirt dobbers, but the trade off is price and picture. Hard not to go with regular one and replace every few years. Of course the sound sucks on it too, external speakers are a requirement.
