Louisiana State Budget & TOPS

With everything shut down and all the money being directed to health care, is there any chance TOPS survives the virus?
I can't imagine the State's budget will be in good shape when this is over, and it seems that education may be the only place for the Legislature to cut.

You can be certain of one thing and that is that TOPS will be officially history.

I liked.
Not that I'm against Tops.
I feel it's good program that needs tougher requirements.
But, sadly it will be first to go.

Hopefully they shut down the local shite schools and keep tips for those who can get into the larger more accredited schools

And this is why we NEED a constitutional convention and need to revoke the protected spending rules.

I agree that the state has too many four year institutions to support, but I think there is no chance any of them will get the ax. To much politics involved.

I agree, but the Legislature will never allow it with a democrat in the Governor's seat.

All the fake arse "conservatives" in this state are going to lose their minds.
ETA: the responses to this statement prove my point. By all means, let’s keep funding our own brain drain while bitching and moaning about all that other waste, though.

The requirements were supposed to get tougher next year. I don’t think it survives at all though. Sucks because I have a senior next year.

Why do you say that? Do you think they wouldn’t give the governor a win?
If he was a first term governor yes. But he’s a lame duck

God forbid there be a single program that tax payers actually benefit from.

TOPS isn't going away.

Since I have been paying my taxes for years and I now have a child set to enroll in college, in August, and set to receive full TOPS money . . . it is almost a guarantee that it will be gone. That’s the way my luck rolls

Every time you guys bring this up I ask for specific examples of cuts you'd make if it weren't for the constitution, with dollar amounts listed.
Yet every time it's crickets.

It absolutely is in it's current form.....it is unsustainable....especially in the world we have come to live in the last 6 weeks.

I feel your pain. I can't help but wonder if cutting TOPS will be sufficient. I could realistically see the cuts running deeper, but I don't know what that might entail.

sounds about right. i started college 5 years before TOPS was created and now my child is graduating and is TOPS eligible and won't get to see it

Oh crap, if TOPS goes away, who will pay to educate other states workforces?

Hey jackass, with the way this state spends money on people that don’t deserve it, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to participate in a program that helps kids who DO deserve it. I’m all for raising the standards and cutting the fat but sadly I think the whole program gets the ax.
