I would love this. Idk about anyone else but drive in’s were before my time, never experienced it myself. I would love to see it happen.
Also: what are you’re guys favorite drive in movie experience? I wish I could have seen the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a drive in.

There’s one a few miles from me but our governor closed it during the pandemic like everything else.

There was one in Sacramento that was open but had to close because of issues with people using the bathroom.

Went to see the Rise of the Planet of the Apes at a drive in theater in Fort Worth. It was hot AF at night in the summer, but it was cool they had food trucks and booze there and the picture and sound quality were good

I think these and video stores are gonna come back like record stores did

It will be a nice niche market in some locations (Especially those with reasonable weather). I don't see this becoming a nationwide thing at all.

I was really looking forward to going check out a pop up one that was supposed to happen in Denver this summer.
Mostly, bc the idea of laying in the bed of a truck on an air mattress under the stars with a j sounds just right. But thats just me.

I would think they'd have to be out in the sticks because they take up so much space
although there is the one down in Ft Worth mentioned above. I guess it is still there but not a prime spot yet.

They're great as a social outing but terrible as a film experience.
You'll enjoy lightweight movies that you've seen before in a new setting. You won't want to see a serious film there.
And yes, it is hot as hell. Down here you'll either sweat or run your vehicle the entire time.

Not in big cities or regions that actually have a real winter. The theater industry needs to just go away and be on demand fully now.

Friend,
It would surprise me, as watching a movie in your car is not as comfortable or as cheap as at home. Could there be a spike due to the novelty? Yes, but there’s a reason they died out and were replaced.

There was a couple near my town growing up that we went to sometimes. It's fun because it's different. They'd show 2 newer movies back-to-back on summer Friday nights for like $5.

Our local drive in movie theater, Brazos Drive In, has been closed during the duration of the stay at home order - they plan to open in May. I don't see why it would get any extra business after opening.

In the summer? Hell no

In the south, this would be great for about four months a year, then you can only see the screen at night, mostly the 2 nights/week, provided it’s not raining. Seems like a very viable business plan.
