after watching him in the 2019 season NFL teams have reason to be somewhat cautious about using a 1st round pick on him. 2019 compared to his play in 2018 looked like two completely different players. Can it all really be written off to a nagging injury?

Delpit had multiple injuries included an ankle injury that limited his mobility and explosiveness and a shoulder injury that affected his tackling. The shoulder injury occurred early in the season during the Texas game and the ankle injury occurred later in the season against Auburn. I think a healthy Delpit will be a steal in the draft this year in the second round.

Delpit is going in the top half of the first round. He will be a superstar in the NFL, and every NFL team knows this.

People are missing the most important factor. In 2018 Delpit had John Battle, Greedy, Devin White, Jacoby, and Fulton by his side and in front of him. He was a free lance player who was used by Aranda in a lot of different ways and schemes that helped him shine.

In 2019 he had Fulton still there and a new true freshman in Stingley to his sides. He had no serious help at SS all season and in fact had to play that many times. As the season progressed the other players around him got better and his opportunities to play like he did in 2018 came back some but not all the way. Then add in he played hurt with a High ankle sprain.

That does not explain away his missed "cut" tackles which from looking at his draft grade were a big detractor.

I think alot of it was due to injury because he did look better at the very end of the season, but that also correlates to when Queen played his best. Maybe when the linebackers started to finally stop the run, it freed him up to freelance to make plays in the passing game. He didn’t have this problem with White.

I also think the hype may have went to his head with the top 5 draft pick talk and he was playing not to get injured early in the season due to the payday coming. I’ve seen that happen to players over the years.
