According to the CDC’s website, in March 2020 there were a total of 193,000 deaths in the US. The average number of deaths in the US for March over the four years prior to 2020 (2016 – 2019) is 227,000. The difference between this year and the average for the past four years is 34,000. 2020 deaths are 85% of the average of the prior four years.

Questionable source, but links CDC site data.

I'd be interested to see the homicide rates and how they compare. Not interested enough to actually look them up though

Fewer accidents. Whenever we start driving again will make up for it.

This came up in another thread recently, I think the mega thread at the top. One of the posters in healthcare said that those numbers aren't "final" for a while, that for various reasons they continue to count March 2020 deaths for several more months. Now will they count 34k+ more deaths? I have no idea, but supposedly it will go up to some degree

Well clearly social distancing is working! Despite the fact we have droves of people dying from the cornavirus we still managed to have less deaths overall than in previous years. Perhaps if we extend social distancing indefinitely one day we will have zero deaths a year in the US, right? I mean, it might be pretty terrible living a life where we never left our houses. But hey! Why take on the inherent risk of dying by living an enjoyable life when we could just hide under our blankets and live a LONG life of doing absolutely nothing.

A few days ago for example NYC jumped up like 4k deaths from "unknown" causes and put them all to Corona. Right or wrong, this is just an example of how numbers can and will jump

What effect does that have on the month of March?

The count lags considerably. Comparing the current date to the same date the previous year after all counting has been completed isn’t apples to apples.

Probably a number of bodies being hidden in sheds - March number will be adjusted when these bodies are discovered.

Questionable source
It’s a weird source that draws an even weirder conclusion.
They’re basically saying that the decrease in deaths proves the shut down was a hoax, when the shut down was the direct cause of the decrease.
The third leading cause of death in the US last year was “accidental deaths” which include automobile and workplace fatalities. The vast majority of these deaths aren’t happening specifically because people are staying at home.

I’ve heard that, and it’s why I wonder why it keeps being said that morgues are being overrun and funeral homes can’t bury people fast enough.
Is that true for certain areas like New York? Or is it just a load of bullshite?

It still adds a day even though March still has 30. If you were gonna die on March 1 in 2019 that would have been included in this number. In 2020 it would be in February’s.

More intert to see what the increase/decrease is from the "illness" category. If there's such a thing.
That way accidents, homicides etc aren't accounted for.

I think April will be more interesting to look at as opposed to March

You mean to tell me statistics don't happen in a vacuum?
The same people that were going on about "politicizing" the virus are now throwing out random statistics with an agenda?
How low we have stooped.

i think i know.

Accidental deaths will increase, but you are incorrect to state we will make up for it.
Final Destination is a movie, not real life.
