How can our schools allow kids to move on/graduate?

this is specifically for LA, as we have had uneven teaching efforts varying by parish to parish (or hell, school to school within the parish). many students have lost half a school year entirely. we aren't doing exit/graduation exams.
how in the hell can we pass these kids along?
*ETA: half a semester or a quarter of the year

meh, they will be fine.
2nd half of senior years didn't have much going on anyway.
A few AP tests if you are taking those courses for college credit was about it.

the ones who are going to be socially promoted anyway? sure
but if you take schooling even somewhat serious, this is a major L. education builds on itself, especially math and its surrounding subjects

I think that the schools can look at each individual student's position at the time of the pandemic and make decisions based on there standing at that time

School districts across Louisiana have had policies in place that mandates all Spanish-speaking students and many other minorities with certain qualities cannot fail for years. Covid didn’t change that.
Our state sucks and it always will suck.

For the vast majority of Louisiana students the second half of the school year is utilized to prepare for standardized testing. No real learning is involved. Nothing of any value is missed.

Aint no dam student lost half the school year, stfu. This happend mid march. With spring break and easter break in there. They may have 35-40 school days... they had the majority of their work and grades established. Between that and the last 2 weeks of school are generally dick off time, they didnt miss anything they didnt arleady have.

They weren’t going to learn anything life-altering in the last 2 months of school, tbh

policies and mandates imply that all of these (I have no idea what I was saying here....stupid text-to-speech) that you are making are in writing. I look forward to seeing links of these policies that you will provide in short order.

uh, everything i said a week before we shut the state down came true
this was primarily a Nola-based issue in LA
Nola was going to be an epicenter of the virus in terms of the US
the rest of the state didn't need to be shut down
not shutting down Nola earlier hurt the rest of the state in spite of that
etc

That's what I remember. By mid March of my senior year, we had pretty much stopped learning any new material, and I had pared down my schedule to really just 2 academic classes - Calculus and English. I was an office assistant the last 2 periods of the day and the secretary gave me a pass to go home almost every day.

Schools have not even been closed for a full month, yet. How does that compute to half a year?

Even though my kids are pretty snot nosed nasty kids they are smart and make straight As
So I’m not really concerned.

They will just have to do a crash review at the start of next year. Sounds like good prep for college where you can be taking a subject and have to review necessary material from another course you haven't taken yet.
This is really not as big of a challenge as you are making it out to be.

LEAP scores don't actually move kids considering we don't get those results till July. They will be using the 3 semesters worth of grades and discretion on moving kids forward or holding them back. Essentially if your child had F's in their core subjects then they will not move on.
