A disruption in supply and demand.
Also a major change in the distribution channel of food--grocers do not have the the sales history to buy properly given the massive change in demand since restaurants have been so restricted.
If the government stays out of it the disruptions will correct themselves but if people like you that believe the government is a better operator of pork facilities and the like are successful we will have major issues for a long time.

What will happen with his Chinese owned pork plant is they will shift to other SF plants in Iowa then sell to Seaboard the excess they can't ansorb. But I B Dumbass wants to play silly games it's his schtick. It's why he avoids simple questions.

You just called for the government seizure of Smithfield farms.
What else do I need to know?

Grocers don't know how to purchase? What an idiot.

I didn't say they should keep them. I said they should give them to Tyson foods. See? Still privately owned, just in our best interests, not China's.

Quite a lot, it would appear.
On a different and more serious note...
Did you ever get your PPP funding? Some have, some haven't... it's a giant clustfrick, as far as I'm concerned.

Smithfield Foods, Inc., is a meat-processing company based in Smithfield, Virginia, in the United States, and a wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China.[a] Founded in 1936 as the Smithfield Packing Company by Joseph W. Luter and his son, the company is the largest pig and pork producer in the world.[5] In addition to owning over 500 farms in the US, Smithfield contracts with another 2,000 independent farms around the country to grow Smithfield's pigs.[6] Outside the US, the company has facilities in Mexico, Poland, Romania, Germany, and the United Kingdom.[7] Globally the company employed 50,200 in 2016 and reported an annual revenue of $14 billion.[3] Its 973,000-square-foot meat-processing plant in Tar Heel, North Carolina, was said in 2000 to be the world's largest, processing 32,000 pigs a day.[8]
Then known as Shuanghui Group, WH Group purchased Smithfield Foods in 2013 for $4.72 billion, more than its market value.[9][10] It was the largest Chinese acquisition of an American company to date.[11] The acquisition of Smithfield's 146,000 acres of land made WH Group, headquartered in Luohe, Henan province, one of the largest overseas owners of American farmland.
Smithfield Foods began its growth in 1981 with the purchase of Gwaltney of Smithfield,[13] followed by the acquisition of nearly 40 companies between then and 2008, including Eckrich; Farmland Foods of Kansas City; John Morrell; Murphy Family Farms of North Carolina; Circle Four Farms of Utah; and Premium Standard Farms.[14] The company was able to grow as a result of its highly industrialized pig production, confining thousands of pigs in large barns known as concentrated animal feeding operations, and controlling the animals' development from conception to packing.[8]

I guess the Germans and the Japs should quit investing here since Trumpkins have so much power and want totaliarism.
IT IS STUPID to be for things like that.
We have to PROTECT private property rights at all cost.
It is what separated the US from the African and Latin American countries.
The concept of private property is what MADE OUR COUNTRY GREAT.
You hate America if you are against private property and if you want the politician of the day to decide what private entity owns what. You are a fascist if you think like that. Screw fascist and those that advocate their ideas.

Not where the Chinese are concerned.
Germans, Japanese, Whoever else.. they are fine. They haven't caused a frickin' global pandemic by being nasty, then lying about it and to this day STILL trying to cover up and prevent people from finding anything out about it. They are lower than lower and don't deserve to be able to own an major players in our economy, therefore... screw 'em.

It is not a big deal.
People worried about the Japs owning "us" in the eighties.
We collect the taxes.
The Russians and most anybody in the world with $$$ has a lot of investment in the US too.
What should concern you is the US companies quietly moving their headquarters out of America. It was really a big deal until Trump lowered the corporate income tax and it will be a big deal again if they raise back to Obama levels.

Go to the nearest tree with a gun. Climb the tree and shoot the first pig that passes by. See YouTube for cleaning pigs.

Because we don’t water down our legends in Kentucky.
Kentucky Legend® hams were first made a long time ago. Back then, our hams were hand-selected, hand trimmed, cured with only the finest natural ingredients and slowly cooked in their own natural juices, nothing added. Finally, in a converted sour mash distillery, they were double smoked with genuine hickory wood, because that was the only way to create the smooth, mellow flavor and rich color of a genuine Kentucky Legend ham.
Today, our meats are still made the same way. Why fix what isn’t broken? Our focus on delivering quality is why our Whole Hams and Turkey Breasts are the largest selling products in their class in the United States.
Besides our award winning smoked and cured hams and turkey breasts we also make Center-Cut Choice Pork Chops, Canadian Bacon and our delicious, sliced Lunch Meats. Maintaining our age old process ensures Kentucky Legend delivers flavors the whole family values.
We are a lot bigger now, but our values and processes are still deeply rooted in a tradition that focuses on quality.
And as so many of our customers know, Kentucky Legend products aren’t just for special occasions, they’re also great for everyday meals.

You are badly wrong on this issue.
The government has to stay neutral on private property. We can't have money afraid to come here because we not reliable when it comes to protecting private property.
(I have my PPE bank note and expect funding Monday.)
