Looks like multiple people clocked him in that area. One as low as 4.34

Wonder if this stuff will be useful considering its just hand timed
Delpit might have screwed himself over not working out at combine, if in fact he can run that fast.

Hand timed. Might as well have used a sun dial.

Hand times are not unusual at pro days, it's pretty common. It's also why pro days usually result in faster 40 times.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, an Electronic Timing System is used. At most Pro Days, manually operated stopwatches are used to time athletes.

When scouts and coaches go to pro days they are timing everything by hand. There are no electronic timing devices available.

scouts hand-time against the laser at the combine anyway. They'll be able to put context to it.

Was this in doubt? I know '19 was derailed because of injury, but I feel like I've always heard him discussed as a 1st rounder.

Almost all legit big time program pro days use laser timing now. Not talking about smaller schools, all the bigger schools use laser timing now to leave no doubt.
Guys in attendance will still use stop watches but they have the laser times to look at officially.

Most drafts have him as a 2nd rounder now due to tackling concerns

Yea, id say it was about 50/50. Safeties generally are a secondary priority, and with the amount of OTs, CBs, WR and QB's in this draft, he was getting pushed down.
There's probably still some question. But he at least showed his physical attribute match what he put on tape in 2018, which is good for him.

Delpit will be a first rounder. You don’t go from a guaranteed top 10 pick to the second round unless something severe happens, missing tackles isn’t one of them. Some team is going be stuck on the film from 2018 and take him in the first.

I felt that way all along but I know a lot of people didnt. As good as his 18' tape was, his 19' was just as bad.

I think hes also being hurt by this projection of him playing free safety, which he did a lot more this year, when he should be projected as a strong/big nickel safety. He’s at his best around the LOS and I’m not really sure why the media keeps projecting him as a deep safety when that’s not what he’s strongest at.

I love Delpit and I think he will be a pro-bowl caliber guy. But I never saw that kind of speed on the field at LSU

he has great ball skills. There aren't many safeties that can play the ball and run like he can. That is why.
A box safety that cant tackle is worthless.

Good for him. That’s blazing for a safety . Even if under 4.5. That’s blazing.

Are 40's still a thing? Wondering how much of the game is played within 10 yards of the opposing players...

in a perfect world, with scouts on hand, they'd collect his 10yd and 20yd split times on that run.
But yes, 40's are still a thing. Baseline measures have long been establish, and its beneficial to see where guys stand.
