What did he say after you revved the engine hard without breaking eye contact?

Hot refueling of a helicopter with j fuel is not a good plan. It is done, but only in extremis in combat.
It's done all the time

10 years in the Army never turned my HMMWV off while refueling. Hell even ran the engines on a helicopter while refueling.
Diesel/kerosene ain’t gas tho.

Are you the sky?

Is it really? Obviously we are more safety conscious in the USAF, so we only hot pit/refuel for specific training purposes, but it certainly isn't "all the time".

No clue. I was only going to include the first two but that one and the two guys stomping out the line of fire made me laugh, so I had to include them.

Why would you shut down to gravity fuel an aircraft when you can hot fuel and go? This is why Ord has to be at FARPs/fueling stations to dearm.

Most of it has to due with safety, while admittedly, those rules are pretty archaic as they were designed with the use of JP-4/5 in mind, not JP-8 or Jet-A-100.

I was an AH-64 pilot for ~10 years. We hot refuel on a daily basis to maintain readiness. Only take cold fuel if landing at a civilian airport.

Dude, nobody believes a thing that you type around here... there's a reason that I responded to the other fella.

JP8 would honestly be more common for hot fuel though. Ex. JP5 was used on the flight line for gravity at Pendleton for helicopters, but JP8 is used at Yuma, 29 Palms, Iraq, Afg where continuous hot fuel would be needed. Each station uses different fuel, but giving you an example.

I'm not certain that you can even find JP-4 or JP-5 anymore. We've switched to almost exclusively Jet-A
