Per capita, Sweden, has about half the Covid-19 cases as neighboring Norway and Denmark yet certain politicians and the media are setting off alarms as if the world will end if Sweden does not march in lockstep with the rest of the world. Are they afraid the Swedish plan may expose how much of a waste the lockdowns may have been on other countries?

Who said that? This is POTENTIALLY the most serious, non-war situation our nation has faced in it's history. That does mean we have done everything the best way. That does mean we need to shut down our country and in fact the lockdowns may have extended this crisis.

Edited due to my stupidity in the original post.

Please explain why this one virus is the most serious in our history. Because that is a very strong statement.

I did overstate that and should have used potentially. I just meant to amplify that just because I do not think the world will end that it does mean I am not concerned or think we should do nothing.

Only because we have made it so by our knee-jerk reactions to a virus that isn't worth the trouble.

100%

Can't thank the government for saving us if another country weathers this situation just as good or better with minimal government interference.

This right here. There will be pain in Sweden, but long term they will be better off for doing this.

I mean hospitals here are running out of machines that help people breath because of this. I wouldn't call it complete bullshite just based on that

That's not what the CEO of Oschner told the President of the United States yesterday. I have a very hard time believing any of the numbers JBE is spitting out because he has cried wolf too many times through this.

Because of their approach Sweden will be interesting to watch.

per 100k population

Sweden Confirmed 60.6 Deaths 3.54
Norway Confirmed 100.0 Deaths 1.10
Denmark Confirmed 67.1 Deaths 2.48
Finland Confirmed 29.3 Deaths 0.36

You seem to think Sweden isn’t doing anything. They gave recommended restrictions on gathering sizes and other social interactions. They’re not just “business as usual “

The difference is that Swedes trust their government way more than we do, so they follow the recommendations. No need for lockdowns.

Here, people will gather for Mardi Gras, spring break and church just to tell the government to go to hell.
