No CPAP with viral filters yet. I will try to find out tomorrow when we will start this. I have taken care of 1 HFNC pt with covid. Had to re-intubate. IDK there hasn't seemed to be a great way to treat.

Thank you for coming here and letting us ask you questions, I appreciate it. Is there anything random citizens can do to help? (Apart from socially distance, of course)

Nah. Use telemed to see your doc. Try not to use ER. Support your local workers who are struggling such as food industry. Watch your fricking kids on their go-karts.
Had first snake bite of season last week so watch out for those and if you are a grown man with a copperhead bite then Jesus Christ fricking deal with it. You'll be fine.
Women, children, rattlesnakes, moccasins... ER.

Basically we do not have experienced icu nurses to take all these patients. Having to train med surg nurses and its bad. NPs and CRNAs are gonna start taking patients.

This is the crux of the matter, and needs publicity. We have ventilator capacity, but are at the limit of our ability to staff the situation.

Yea, also can people in BR stop shooting each other. And if they do can they finish the job for once.

That has actually been talked about for us for the last few years here in Nola

Mitch and now Latoya like to talk about how murders have gone down blah blah blah. But shooting incidents haven’t gone down. So people are just becoming worse shots, meaning we see more patients that are likely on Medicaid

I'm just saying..
For real, I don't think it's man made. It's probably ancient according to NEJM article.

I knew an ER doctor who practiced in South LA, was my age (42), and wouldn’t give a frick about starting/answering a thread on a message board.

Why? Because he was busy drinking, fly fishing, more fishing, while his heart was slowly imploding.

My point is that you should get a life.

Or maybe get a specialty and get out of the ER.

Are they able to get icu beds or are they hanging out in the er beds for a while? Basically are hospitals full?

Our current situation, which seems consistent in south Louisiana: ER census is low, med-surg census is low; however ICU/vent capacity is over. We can handle a few more in terms of equipment, but our ability to staff vent patients is maxed.

I think lack of prep for bioterrorism led to this.
Not saying this is bioterrorism. But holy frick think of the financial implications of the universal changes we made after 9-11. What a superficial, thoughtless endeavor.
And we don't even have enough masks for 4 weeks?
