Does this mean no more school for my 7 & 8 yr old or just home schooling for remainder of the yr? My wife and I working full time from home while trying to keep theses little f’rs on task with school work is getting old.

Depends on your county. But if they are doing online things now they probably are going to keep doing it. That is how its working in Gwinnett at least.

It is not a judgement on the people of Georgia to state the fact that they have 95 counties without ICU beds and note that is sub-otimal giving what we are now facing. Do you even disagree with that? So what are you even pissy about?

quote:No offense but this literally means nothing. Georgia has the second most counties in the US.
States ranked by counties without ICU beds
1. Texas: 166 counties
2. Georgia: 95 counties
3. Nebraska: 81 counties
4. Missouri: 78 counties
5. Kansas: 76 counties
Counties without ICU beds percentage-
Texas 166/254 = 65%
Georgia - 95/159 = 59%
Nebraska = 81/93 = 87%
Missouri 78/115 67%
Kansas 76/105 72%
Many counties in South Georgia have 20,000 people and below. 6 million of the 10 million people in GA live in the 15 or so counties around ATL.

Atlanta is in bad shape. Csra is showing little signs of an actual epidemic.
Atlanta’s not the whole state though and there are many places relatively unaffected by the virus. Zero deaths, 2 cases in the county where I live.

Yea, no shite. Georgia was bound to have many more cases than states with much less metropolitan traffic than Atlanta. Louisiana has had 273 deaths, no doubt because New Orleans is a major multicultural center.

How big, equipped, prepared is your local hospital? Look at Albany, things are bad there.

Right. In an earlier comment about Georgia, I noted that the mayor of Atlanta reported that that area was out of ICU beds a week ago. Pair that with 95 other counties not having ICU beds at all and Albany having as tough a time with COVID as anywhere in the world, at least on a per capita basis, and you end up with a pretty tough picture for Georgia.
For what it's worth I didn't just come to this realization out of nowhere. I spent two hours today on a call with folks from WellStar looking to understand what we're doing in NYC to rapidly expand capacity. They're certainly worried, even if you're not.

That's misleading because Georgia has a boatload of counties - the second most of any state (behind only Texas). Essentially, some states partitioned like crazy naming little territories after every prominent landowner or jackass who fired a rifle during the civil war, while others organized more practically. Georgia has three times as many counties as California despite being half the size and only having a quarter of the population.
So obviously there are counties without hospitals, courthouses, DMVs, etc. The residents still have access to the services they are just shared with other counties in a central location.

very little testing, relatively speaking. Georgia is the worst shape of any state in the country other than NY. That'll be apparent in about a week or so.
Bingo. Georgia outpaced the national rate with a 25% increase vs 13%.
It’s gonna hit hard over the next two weeks in the major MSAs.

Numbers haven’t hit yet. Watch the next two weeks.

It’s worth mentioning that Georgia has a lot of counties, not municipalities, that don’t have the authority to implement these on their own. They can only enforce what the governor puts in place. This may have a lot to do with it.
