California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that the state has seen 1 million unemployment claims in less than two weeks as the coronavirus pandemic has led to businesses being shut down across the state.
“We just passed the 1 million mark, in terms of the number of claims, just since March 13,” Newsom said

Don’t worry. This is temporary and everything will be normal in a month

Weren't they one of the first states to shut down "non-essential" businesses and tell people to just stay home?

How many of these are Instagram influencers?

Has anyone asked how we are going to pay for all this unemployment and stimulus?

That's $600,000,000 million paid out a week on unemployment if this bill passes.
That's $9,600,000,000 in 4 months for California alone. Looks lime this is going to bankrupt the country fast.

That’s a very sharp and significant increase. With stay at home orders and oil tanking Louisiana is next to see a huge spike in unemployment claims. These are real people and families affected. No need for jokes. They, like everyone in our country, need our prayers.

Or we could all go back to work

I had to lay off every other person in my office. We hope to hire them back in July.

They will probably all move to Louisiana and spread their liberal BS.

I don’t disagree with your second point, but $9.6 billion over 4 months to the most populous state in the union would be a win at this point.
That’s 0.5% of a $2 trillion stimulus bill.

That's unemployment for just one state. If every state dis the same thing, your looking at 4.8E11. Which 2 trillion wouldn't even touch for 4 months.

1. It’s the most populous state in the country. Not sure why you’d expect every state to have the same numbers.
2. 4.8E11 is $480 billion over 4 months. $2 trillion is 2E12...
ETA:
The projections I’ve seen for the cost of the increased unemployment benefits are ~$250 billion. California makes up about 12% of the US population. That means if every state had the same number of new claims per capita as California over the past two weeks, that would be $80 billion total in new claims. Granted, there are likely going to be more new claims as things move forward and that’s not counting people who were already on unemployment prior to 2 weeks ago.
