Serious question, you have to pick one, what do you pick?
Which of these outcomes is net worse for society?

really should be a metric of years lost vs the expected lifespan
Dying 40 years sooner is a lot different than 2.

I'm not going to be the guy who has to tell a quarter million grandkids that I made the decision to off their grandparents to avoid a spike in the unemployment rate.
So bring on the 20% unemployment rate. I've been poor, I've been well off, but I've always been able to look at myself in the mirror when I got out of bed.
When it comes down to a choice between life and money, I'm going to come down on the side of life every single time.

More people will die in your scenario

Unemployment would be a lot higher than 20% in some of these shutdown scenarios people are throwing around.

That will kill more people several times over because it won't go away for years.

Bingo... the left absolutely refuses to acknowledge the damage and death that a depression causes even though we have precedent. This is the Social media virus of 2020.... we are where we are due to social media...hands down.

I don't like to debate hypotheticals, but I can say with 100% certainty that my 91 year old grandmother would WILLINGLY die tomorrow before forcing her soon-to-be 3 year old great-grandaughter to live a decade of her life going through another Great Depression as she had to live through growing up.

Nah.
Life and death during the Great Depression by José A. Tapia Granadosa and Ana V. Diez Roux: "the only noticeable increase of mortality was suicide, with a noticeable decline of mortality in every other category."

But how many will you drive to suicide, addiction, etc because of the unemployment?

Not to mention the increase is crime, drug abuse, etc that comes with that level of unemployment. How would you explain that to the millions of kids affected by that???

Yeah
People are exponentially weaker now.

Goldman predicted 30% unemployment. That’s worse than the Great Depression.

Then you can explain to them why they have to sleep under the overpass.

I've seen a lot of suicidal people. I've seen a lot of addicts. While those issues of psychology and character may be triggered to an extent by unemployment, they are there every day. That would be a them problem.
