I'm almost to the point where I think this HAS to happen - and he is the only politician in the world even remotely capable of making such a decision.

If we don't do this, the damage is almost unimaginable.

quote:

President Donald Trump began talking privately late last week about reopening the nation, despite the swiftly rising number of coronavirus cases and against the advice of health professionals, because he’s worried about the economic damage from an extended shutdown, according to people familiar with his thinking.

quote:

The president started talking about how to get people back to work around Thursday, two of the people said, only three days after he helped roll out a 15-day plan from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stem the rise of cases by encouraging most people to stay at home. That campaign would end about March 31.

The discussions centered on what to do after the 15-day period ends, and how to test and isolate everyone who’s sick so healthy people can return to work. It’s likely the CDC guidelines would be relaxed rather than scrapped altogether, one person said.

It just seems nearly impossible this could be kept up for even 3 months, much less 6 or 9 or whatever it would really take. I think we could have major social unrest fairly soon... certainly getting all the way through the summer is inconceivable.

Here are a few links to some rational commentators arguing the same thing. I'd like to keep growing this list. Also, how can we possibly make this viewpoint heard/known in a way that improves the likelihood of it happening?

Do it! Let your giant orange balls hang and let us go back to work! Waiting around for congress to pass relief packages with end us all.

I’ve been saying it on here but Friday will be the first real major pushback from the people. Millions of Americans are about to miss their whole first paycheck and Congress is playing partisan games.

Ioannidis has been on this for a while, unfortunately his tenure at Stanford will be in jeopardy for not following the draconian action route. His publications will soon be removed.

Same with Aaron Ginn who had the audacity to use the cdc and WHO's own numbers against them. They will be processed for abandoning the collective

I sure hope not. I've been following him for years. His is a very valuable voice.

Do you have a link? I'll add it.

Thanks for posting this, OP.

The first link you posted should be a must-read, as it demonstrates clearly that we are doing all of this based on limited data and that even under the worst assumptions it would probably not be worse than what will happen if we break the world's economy.

He was on medium.com and I think they yanked him.....saying they could not verify what he was saying.....medium has a disclaimer that says they don't do it. However, the subversives at zerohedge picked it up

I kind of think this should be stickied.

Trump absolute has to frame it as a sober-minded risk/reward decision.

Clearly, he will face the uphill, pre-determined narrative of "he's going to cave to try and save the economy at the expense of the health and end up making both worse".

But it is the right decision. Cutting the economy off at the knees is ALSO a healthcare decision - likely worse than WuFlu.

He's gonna tease it and complain on twitter about it, but it would be a bad look to turn back now while people watch the cases increase, and I doubt he will

I hope you're wrong. I guess we'll see what the pitchforks and torches reaction is when the first [X] million Americans actually don't get their paycheck - and then are told that will continue indefinitely.

It's weird how closely some of you will hew to knee jerk talking points, even if you like the message.

I posted this yesterday - and what happened today? Trump came out and said things EXACTLY in line with what was reported.

3 more weeks is enough of this shite. That's enough to bend the curve particularly in hot spots, get resources in place, pass stimulus, and make sure we can contain it.

The damage to the economy will be worse and Trump knows it. This is unsustainable.

Is it shitty when it's exactly on target? Unnamed sources were not invented 3.5 years ago.

Nah. More like congrats to the country in that we hopefully won't have to careen off the cliff holding the anvil.

Unarmed sources is different than those familiar with his thinking.

That’s shitty and you know it. They could mean anything from his wife to you.
