Look, I actually agree with you on the reporter take, but the statement you wrote above is beyond laughable.

I think the most accurate reporting is being done not by the main street media (this prob represents what many identify as "reporters") but by non-traditional "reporters" like bloggers, independent reporters/journalists, talk radio, some tv opinion shows and others.

So basically everyone that doesn't have reporting standards they're required to meet?

Watching Trump's press conference, I couldn't help but cheer Trump on when he went off on the reporters for scaring the American people

The question was a complete softball intended for Trump to hit a home run. "What do you say to the millions of Americans who might be scared right now?". That's not a gotcha question. It's set up on a fricking tee for him to speak in platitudes about American greatness, resiliency, teamwork, etc.

Instead of offering assurances, he goes off on the reporter for lobbing him a softball?

He's SOOOOO fricking far outside his range of abilities, he's fricking drowning in plain sight to every American who doesn't have orange lips. Mike Pence, aka Dan Quayle Sr., actually sounds intelligent and on top of his game in comparison to Trump. Why is Trump even speaking at these things? He's not an expert. He delegated the whole thing to Pence. Him tossing around mistruths (like vaccines are almost ready, FDA approved a drug, cases are coming down, etc.) are just taking away time that could be spent hearing from actual experts like Dr. Fauchi.

Reporting standards.

Things have to be triple sourced. Retractions are made regularly. Hard news is hard news, not opinion. They must meet the AP Style Guide. Etc.

But yeah, let me run to a blogger on frickTheLibs.com for "real news".

You might want to get out of your bubble a bit if you actually think this.

So you think Fox News upholds these standards?

Imagine the reporters were right all along and Trump underestimated everything from day one.

Trump’s responses to COVID-19 since January:

These are all direct quotes. They are all backed up by video and audio, most on national television.

January 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”

February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

February 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”

March 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”

March 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”

March 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”

March 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”

March 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”

March 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

March 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”

March 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”

March 9: “This blindsided the world.”

March 13: " Declaration of National Emergency"

????

It's pretty obvious to me that every one of those quotes was an attempt to keep the panic at a minimum because he knew what the economic impact would be should panic set in.

In the end, nothing could stop it. I give him credit for doing what nobody in the media was able to do then, or even now. The media is stoking the flame of panic. Trump is consistently beating the drum of "everything is going to be ok"

They're noticing the panic-driving hacks that just about all journalists are today, no matter the ideological slant.

The only reason you and others are defending the media's antics is because they're going after Bad Orange Man.

The media aren’t the ones shutting cities and states down. It’s local government.

They simply aren't asking the right questions. Instead of covering this and finding information and digging deep, they are focusing on stupid shite like what name people give the virus.

The media is driving the panic. And panicky people are demanding the state and local governments "do something".

So they are.

The part about Trump not possessing the skill set to effectively deal with the challenges posed by a pandemic or the part about most Americans possessing the wherewithal for it to be plain to see?

I suppose the ideas aren’t mutually exclusive, but I’m curious if you’re only referencing one or the other.

Reporters are garbage

Regardless of your politics, it's obvious what they're doing. They aren't there to report the news, they're there to provoke the president into giving whatever particular sound bite their bosses are wanting to run with that night. They're like a cross between a shock jock and an ad salesman.
