And it looks like he is out of business

A Tennessee man who became a subject of national scorn after stockpiling 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer donated all of the supplies on Sunday just as the Tennessee attorney general’s office began investigating him for price gouging.
quote:
“I’ve been buying and selling things for 10 years now. There’s been hot product after hot product. But the thing is, there’s always another one on the shelf,” he said. “When we did this trip, I had no idea that these stores wouldn’t be able to get replenished.”
quote:
Now Mr. Colvin is facing consequences. On Sunday, Amazon and eBay suspended him as a seller, which is how he has made his living for years. The company where he rented a storage unit kicked him out. And the Tennessee attorney general’s office sent him a cease-and-desist letter and opened an investigation.

Well, he'll get a tax write off and be known in American lore as that crazy guy who hoarded all the hand sanitizer back in 2020 so I guess it's a partial victory.

If that storage unit place only knew what all their other customers are involved in, they'd be kicking out quite a few

Right, because buying 18,000 units of a product you expect to be replenished and sold at your cost is how you make a living selling things.

It was a complete overreaction all around for him to receive the hate he did and lose his livelihood.
He seemed genuine when he said this...

Should've doubled down and bought up all the beer too

The Tennessee ag was about to and is still probably going after him. Just mitigating his future liabilities

People buy stuff in stores and sell online all the time. It's called retail arbitrage and it takes advantage of people that do most shopping online.

Waste of time

The language of the law could benefit Mr. Colvin. Gov. Bill Lee of Tennessee declared a state of emergency on March 12, activating the price-gouging law. The Colvin brothers bought all of the sanitizer and wipes in question before that date, and Mr. Colvin said he did not sell anything after it.

When its a declared emergency then it price gouging.
They should be summarily shot

At that scale in a relatively small area over a short period of time during a perceived crisis?
I'm skeptical.

It wasn't an emergency when he did it, though.

He said the outpouring of hate has been scary for him and his family. He said people have incessantly called his cellphone, posted his address online and sent pizzas to his home. His inbox was flooded with ugly messages, he said. One email he shared with The Times said: “Your behavior is probably going to end up with someone killing you and your wife and your children.”
It was crazy on the local sites on social media.
This guy probably needs to shut up and get out of town for about a month. Let it die down.

Kinda like drug companies that have been holier than though above prosecution pushing drugs and some having essentially monopolies for more than 30+ years. AGs have never gone after them until very recently. They should be shot on the spot. Not some dude just hustling random shite for a living.

I mean...come on. He knew what he was doing. Internet mob has likely gone too far but he’s not that dumb.

Baw is a stupid frick.
Couldve put up a sign and sold it for what he paid and lived to see another day.
No harm, no foul.
But no, dude needed some attention.

They were openly making threats of physical violence on social media.
I have no problem with the fact he and his brother got called out or if they get an arse whipping.
When you start threatening people's kids. That crosses a line. I hope law enforcement investigates and charges anyone who threatened his wife and children.

Just saw this on twitter. It puts things into perspective IMO
quote:
The Fed just handed $1,500 BILLION to Wall Street.
But yeah, a guy with too many hand sanitizers is totally ripping you off.

Are you to dumb to realize how many if not all 401k have drugs stocks in their portfolio and you realize the same industry you are bitching about is going to fund your retirement and if you want them to fail your retirement will suffer also
