NOW I’m wondering if I should start buying enough for a few weeks - DoD related

The DoD telling it’s personnel and their families to stay at home/base really raised my eyebrows and got my attention. WTF do they know that they’re not telling? Are they preparing for possible martial law or a domestic deployment of some other sort? Would it be a bad idea to go stock up on groceries for a few weeks at this point, just in case? We were out of toilet paper yesterday so I had to go run to the store and ended up feeling stupid looking for TP at three different stores before I found some. This feels ridiculous but I don’t want to be caught with my pants down.

Settle down. This will all blow over in a few weeks. You can still go to the grocery store, out to dinner, whatever. Supply chains aren’t being interrupted. Farmers sure as hell ain’t gonna stop farming.

I’m with you, it’s just that the DoD order to domestic forces grabbed my attention. I guess they want to be prepared for anything just in case. Hopefully that’s all it is.

This is why you should stay stocked up.
I don't want to discourage anyone from getting what they need, but I am afraid that we are about to see a needless panic buying situation.

Yes, go now before the sun comes up and find all the TP you can! Why did you not do this last night for crying out loud.

Go into every public restroom you can and steal the rolls out of the stalls. Stock up on bottled water, bread and milk which you probably will not find.

Instead get all the powdered dry milk you see. Get the Slim Jim beef jerky from convenience stores. Ask to search the stock room in the back. Sometimes a box will fall behind a shelf.

Go, go now!

Oh yeah, and with draw all our you money and stash the cash in a few locations around town.

Because the virus has been here for some time and a large amount of us already have it. That is going to freak people the frick out. They have no idea what the public will do in that scenario.

I held off throwing out several pairs of old boots just in case we run out of potato chips and ice cream.

I would imagine it has a lot to do with all of the testing that is about to take place. More tests available means there will be more cases reported. Inevitable really.

The good thing about that though, is I think it will lower the mortality rate on this virus.

I was told some not so good news by someone who works in the medical field yesterday that is involved in a lot of the government goings on and know quite a bit more than the general public. Basically SARS from a while back did infect quite a few people. In most of those people it basically stayed dormant and didn't attack their bodies(reason is above my head). The corona virus entering that same person will actually make SARS do its thing. The end result is death because of SARS and not death because of Corona. Basically, the mortality numbers are a bit off currently because the cause of death isn't technically because of Corona, but SARS.

This is also a reason why some people who contract Corona and do not have SARS, may not have any respiratory issues. See one of the recovered people in Washington state who was interviewed last night on Fox News. She had a spiked fever to 103, but not once during her battle have any shortness of breath, chest issues, etc.

We did this last week. It doesnt hurt to be prepared, even if it's a longshot.

That’s the first I’m hearing of that. Not sure if I believe it but SARS is severe acute respiratory syndrome so I’m sure it’s plausible. I just think the media would be leading with this all the time if that were the case.

No - it means they are curing any unnecessary travel which could allow personnel to catch the virus and then bring it back to a base. It's a measure to contain the virus where it is.

I added to my post likely before you made this response.

This information came from a government/healthcare meeting in Texas this week.

One other example is that some people who were harboring SARS will also test positive for corona much longer than someone who does not have SARS, after all physical symptoms are gone. This will end up causing issues with the general public as well because we will see people quarantined for up to two months possibly with no signs of illness.

They just sent the entire youth - high school and college aged kids home for a month with nothing to do and all social events and athletic facilities are closed. That’s going to potentially cause some problems. Like crime, violence, etc....

The inner cities are about to be over run with unsupervised unruly hungry kids

I have no doubt the national guard and reserves and police everywhere are on high alert right now.

The first week might be ok but after a couple weeks it’s going to get out of control and places like New Orleans are going to be in trouble because we have a slashed Police force who is already overworked and underpaid and they haven’t even started to see the worst of it yet

Very good point! And to point of needing the DoD to remain healthy, good point there too.
