Whew, I've been breathlessly waiting to hear what that hypocrite has to say on the matter.

I asked this question yesterday and was generally torn on the answer.

I figured there really wasn't any downside but then someone brought up the the high school seniors who would have less available scholarship spots and it made me think this is a bad idea

I agree for the spring sports...

But for winter sports? They had a whole season basically

Why is he a hypocrite? He may be, I just have no idea why.

Easy solution: players who were in their final year of eligibility can stay with their current team and not count against the limit.

Yeah, but that will have a serious ripple effect on recruiting (incoming freshman who wanted quicker playing time might look at other options, sophomores and juniors waiting their turns might look to transfer, etc.)

Teams with uneven amounts of players could cause issues as well

I agree on the less scholarships hurts this incoming class

But the slippery slope to me is the guys who have been waiting behind that Senior to play and now has to wait another year of eligibility to play. Don't get me wrong, the Senior deserves to come back but now when does the extra year stop because so many "lost a year" by that Senior coming back

I am also torn on this. Maybe something about if a player hasn't red shirted before then they can this year for Winter and summer sports regardless of games played.

Except that there's a cost to the university for each of them, and the schools are already going to be losing a tremendous amount of revenue from all of this.

Yeah they played 90% but that 90% is what you play for.

You can’t take their last chance away for something out of their control.

Sure you can. Happens all the time when players get injured near the end of the season.

I agree that spring spots should, like baseball. Basketball was over for the majority of teams

The best players play. There’s no guarantee that guy that guy that is “waiting” doesn’t get passed up by an underclassmen, incoming transfer, etc.

People need to stop searching for the perfect solution here that does not exist. There is no way to have nobody impacted by whatever decision made is going forward. Instead focus on finding the best possible imperfect solution.

Not at all.

College basketball analyst on ESPN is on an ESPN show.

Yeah. That’s exhausting.
