Non-COVID-19 topic: I think my golden retriever is broken.

For some reason I cannot get my 4 month old golden retriever to ya know...retrieve. I’ve trained her to sit, stay, still working on down and heel but they’re coming along. However, she does not seem to be hardwired to go retrieve something.
I’m not using her as a duck dog or anything like that, but I still would like for her to go retrieve things when I throw em.
I’ve tried the thing where you throw the ball down a hallway so she doesn’t get distracted, I’ve tried bouncing the ball around her to get her interested in it, I’ve tried shaking the ball/toys in her face to get her wanting to grab at it, all to no avail.
Anybody on the OT got a tip to get my dog to want to play fetch?

Maybe she’s a lesbian

Maybe that’s the problem. I picked out a retarded dog.

The only time my lab will play fetch is if water is involved. Throw a ball in the back yard? He doesn’t give a flying frick. Throw a ball in a lake/river? Game fricking on

Retarded dogs are a lot more fun.

Throw a piece of beef jerky down the hall. If she’s not interested...

First you make a roux then give her one last good snuggle.

Could be worse, our aussiedoodle runs for whatever you throw and refuses to bring it back or acknowledge your existence once she get it.

Yes. She goes wild on all of her toys. Just not when they’re thrown.

Good looking pup have had 2 goldens have never heard of this issue. It’s so instinctive with that breed I bet she’ll eventually get the hang of it.

She is broken and can’t be fixed. You’re the one that broke her.

Do you happen to have an electric reclining couch?

Have you tried dead bird with feathers on the end of a rope on the end of a pole and swing it around?

I’d get her checked out. One of my dogs had front leg problems as a pup. I don’t recall the term but her knees looked like they were buckling. We got it checked out and were advised to just give her an adult formula and reduce her activity. It really helped.
She’s a little clumsy but she runs and plays and has a great life. Take her to the doc, the vet can figure it out.
ETA. My dog was about the same age as yours when this happened. They grow so fast. Dogs get aches and sprains too. She’s really cute

They just differ as individuals.
Mine would only retrieve indoors and refused to get in the water.
Didn’t matter, great buddy.

Does she socialize? If she has another dog to "compete with", she might get to like it. Good Luck!
