Wonder if he would have been able to make this leap on our system with our current depth chart...

If we didn't pump the Okafor balloon...

Maybe his getting kicked to the curb by the Pels is what lit a fire under his arse to perform. We will never know for certain.

You know he averaged like 17/8 for the Pels last year right?

Gotta love giving up good young talent on an insanely cheap contract for absolutely nothing.

I dont know if you look at this from a manager decision or a coach having to give me a chance.

Why is it that some Pelicans fans are obsessed with Ex Bench players? I’ve never understood it...

he was an unrestricted free agent and the pels did not have his bird rights. At the time they had to decide on him they did not have space to offer him anything but the minimum and did not have knowledge of how they would offer him minutes
The roster was in flux and the new regime had bigger fish to fry. The opportunity worked out for him in Detroit primarily due to griffins injuries. Happy for him and I hope he gets a big paycheck in the offseason

Anyone that watched his short stint here could have seen this coming.

Just the good ones we let go.

No, he was under contract...
When we signed Melli, he decided the roster had to many bigs and he would have too much of a fight to get minutes, so he asked Griff to trade or release him..
Griff looked for a trade which is why he was around until after summer league, then they released him and Detroit claimed him on waivers

not a guaranteed contract.
last year he played on a rest of season minimum after they claimed him off waivers.

The first sub-headline in the title...

The NBA’s unlikeliest star is putting up monster numbers for the Pistons and could end up being this summer’s most coveted free agent. So where did he come from?
This is kind of different.
I was really high on Wood. He was #2 on my "what's not crap in our pile of end of rotation players" list behind Kenrich. There were points last season he almost played well enough to keep us in some games when we all wanted to tank. He flashed dominance on both ends of the floor in very short bursts. No one who was still paying attention to the team should be all that surprised he's having a great year.
I also think Wood wanted out more than the Pels wanted to let him go. I think they would have loved to stash him on our roster and maybe/maybe not play him.

I had this take back in July and it looks like he is who I thought he was. My first post got 72 downvotes. Where you at Dantheman504 and unctiger4. There were others but their posts weren’t as bad. Eat dat crow!
