I don’t think he should be in jail for 22 years. Maybe a 2-3 year sentence at most based on the little case that against him.
He got convicted of conspiring to murder someone. You don't get 2-3 years for that.
Plus all the animal offenses.

His wife and beneficiary of his will is always going to be the prime suspect. I'm not saying she didn't do it, just that I'm not certain she did.
Yeah, I'm not certain she did it either. I just think it's more likely than not that she did.
The fact that his plane couldn't possibly make it to Costa Rica without refueling is significant to me.
Also, I read Carole's self attempt at debunking the accusations. It was nothing but ad hominem and non sequitur arguments.

Oh, I don't think he made it to Costa Rica. I just think if you screw someone in the drug trade, they can dump you in a swamp and park your van by an airport just as well as Carole could.
There seemed to be so much crooked stuff with Don, who knows? With the tigers and monthly trips to South/Central America, his business model was pretty close to Scarface.

You're absolutely right about this though.
Honestly, almost nothing would surprise me one way or the other with these folks.

I'm sure they did some editing out of all the evidence against him. Literally everyone that worked for him went and testified against him. And even the documentary said they didn't deliberate long. for 12 people to come back that fast and say guilty on all 19 charges means their evidence was very solid. You rarely have anyone convicted of that many charges all at once.

I mean they all were being leveraged by the DA to testify to avoid their own crimes.

Or it means his defense, likely thru his own doing, was not very good.
People with shite lawyers or unlikeable personalities get thrown in jail on circumstantial evidence all the time.
I’m sure we will get a breakdown of that trial at some point during this whole thing tho so we’ll see if they really edited out a bunch of evidence.

Yes, this is certainly a possibility.
It's also the most compelling explanation Carole gave regarding why the power of attorney had the "upon my disappearance" language. I just think it's more likely that a drug related crime would've occurred in Costa Rica.
ETA: Then again, if they killed him in his home town with the intention of implicating his wife, then bravo.

Yeah, even if she didn't do it, I think she likely knew what he was into and that "disappearance" was an occupational hazard.
I mean, she may still have done it, but it certainly did not seem he had a particularly legit business, and it's not like that does not pose a threat too.
If he was into drugs and screwed over someone in his distribution network in Florida, it didn't necessarily need to happen in Costa Rica. Or, a la Scarface, someone could have thought they could do Don's business better than Don was doing it.
Absent something new and shocking, I doubt it will ever be anything other than murky.

There are people that actually murder people that get out in 10-15 years
The animal charges were all clearly BS, the doc did a good job of explaining why the Feds threw that in there. People hate animal abusers/animal cruelty. The Feds are the masters at just railroading people, any citizen really has no chance once they set their sights on you.
Saff said it best, Carole could've been helping Tigers with all of that time and money, and Joe's Tigers certainly suffered due to all of this (lack of money for upkeep, food, etc.) The animals all suffered the most from all of their petty nonsense.

After watching the first 2 episodes, I was all into the hype of this and loved Joe Exotic. But the whole season took a dark turn and I ended up hating everyone involved. Selfish, greedy, manipulative, exploitative, etc. All of them, which is probably why Carole and Joe hated each other so much. THey were pretty much the same person, she was just more polished.

The other glaring issue I have with Carole is that she went in hard on the dementia, Alzheimer's angle and everyone that knew Don said helllll naw he didn't lose his mind

That song Here Kitty Kitty has a bit of a Doolin Dalton vibe to it

Basically all of Joe's major problems were the result of his own bad decisions.
Carole never would have been able to take him to court if he didn't really obviously infringe on her trademark. He basically handed her an easy win in court.
Then, he goes off and makes a bunch of public death threats. I'm sure a big reason the jury convicted him is all the tv footage of him threatening her, shooting a mannequin in the head, etc.
Then, he decides to get involved with an obviously sketchy guy in Jeff Lowe and sign over the zoo to him. Lowe does what Lowe does and screws him over.
The things that wound up destroying Joe were all his own doing.

Don't disagree. It's what makes it even more sad tbh. The dude clearly had issues, but he was surrounded by bad people that just kept pushing him more and more over the edge.

This time stamped part is simply remarkable. The fact that his hand is covered in real tiger shite is amazing by itself.

I went through his Youtube channel, aside from the political grandstanding videos, it is pretty interesting to watch his daily videos/shows at the zoo. He manages to get a dig in at Baskin every chance he gets

she turns her head and rolls her eyes. That was the most obvious tell of guilt and that a person is full of shite I’ve ever seen.
I don't recall if it's in ep 1 or 2 - but an interviewer brings up her husband's disappearance and as she responds to the question, she closes her eyes and blurts out a reply. Not a blink, mind you - but an extended closure. It's almost as if she doesn't want you to see where she's looking. Up and to the left is lying? I'm sure a body language expert could have a field day with that one...
