Based on what you know now, if you could draft Clyde this year or acquire Fournette from the Jags, who would you take?

as much as I like LF7, there’s something about Clyde I can’t put my finger on that just says to me he is gonna be around for a long time and may ultimately have a more impactful NFL career than LF7. i guess it all depends on how you define success though. super bowls, 1000yd seasons, all pro, APY, etc.

i do know that for me, Clyde is more fun to root for : ) with that whole underdog thing.

If Buga played for last seasons football team this conversation would never take place. You’re confusing the teams success with the individual comparison. Buga is by far the superior player.

LF ceiling is far higher than Clyde's.
but
LF does his best work running behind a fb so he doesnt have to read gaps inside to out or out to in. He can just run off fb. fb is dying position in the nfl.

Clyde in the 2019 offense, Buga in the 2015/2016 offense

Clydes shiftiness was better suited for our offense than bugas power running and straight line speed.

You’re right about Fournette’s history behind fullbacks but Defillipo doesn’t really use them so this season he proved he can make the adjustment and be productive. He was in a 2 tight zone blocking scheme this year and had his best all around season. He even caught 70+ passes this year and had his best YPC even though he had a chaotic passing game that couldn’t really protect him.

Clyde. I will take an overachiever and team player versus the spoiled underachiever anyday. Bring Clyde to Jacksonville and ship LF out.

I'm taking LF7 all day, every day if I'm looking for a workhorse, feature back. He is definitely the superior talent.

With that said, I think Clyde has a longer career ahead of him because he won't take the pounding that LF7 will. I can see Clyde having a Kevin Faulk like career as a third down back or change of pace option.

I will take vision and the ability to make a defender miss - two qualities that Leonard, unfortunately, does not possess - over speed and power. Clyde has good power though.

Yep, when it's all said and done Clyde will have the better NFL career.

Clyde. You think fournette would've made any of those guys miss on the backfield when clyde would just spin right out and get 15-20 yards or a TD? He couldn't even make it back to the LOS if someone got in the backfield. When everything went perfect Fournette was incredible. Any sort of breakdown in the blocking and he was fricked.

Leonard Fournette by a very wide margin. Clyde was great and fit in this offense well, but some of yall aren't realizing just how dominant LF was while being hamstrung the entire time by a Les Miles offense. The only team to stop LF was Bama and that had everything to do with Miles' stubbornness. LF would have broken records in this offense (like he did in 2015) and likely won the Doak Walker award even having to battle JT, Etienne, Chuba, and Dobbins.

That 2015 offense was tailored for a back like LF if it was the 1970s. Forunette would flourish in a new age offense with a dominant O-Line and a QB that made defenses respect the pass. It's a shame so many people don't understand just what a generational talent LSU had with him.

They are 2 such drastically different styles it would come down to team needs. Clyde is much better in tight spaces, not even close imo, and clyde does almost everything very well. LF is a rare talent with the ball in his hands once he gets full speed and has linebackers and DBs trying to get him down.

I’d still take Fournette over CEH. While true that Fournette isn’t as elusive as Clyde , he still would have dominated. Instead of juking to get a few extra yards, Fournette could have used a stiff arm or ran right by the defender. With so much focus being diverted to the passing game, Fournette would have gashed defenses.

Clyde never faced an 8 man box, never faced a 9 man box and ran against as light as 6 men boxes a good percent of the time. Fournette was ripping off 200 and 300 yard games against loaded boxes on his way to leading the country in rushing and setting LSU records. He’s also been a thousand yard rusher twice in the NFL and led his team to the AFC championship game as a rookie. A game they lost on a bogus call btw.
