Golf in Monroe area

Drive 40 minutes to Black Bear or 20 minutes to Calvert Crossing. Monroe only has Chennault and Muni that you can play on unless you have some hookup to get on at Bayou Desiard.

Squire Creek - Choudrant - you will need a call from your pro to their pro and a forecaddie or have a member take you out there. the first option is in no way guaranteed. It is the best course in the state.

Mystic Creek - El Dorado - invest in the drive time - far superior to anything else other than Squire in NELA and many people like Mystic better than squire.

Black Bear - Delhi - easy access and shorter drive from Monroe than Mystic - not on par with Mystic or Squire but superior to anything else in NELA.

Bayou Desiard - Monroe - like Squire, you will need an in to play. First 3 holes are very nice with the bayou running next to them. The rest of the course is sorta blah at best. The back 9 will be swampy this time of year.

Calvert - Calhoun - you can call and get a tee time - it has been a few months since I have played but if the greens are in good shape, I may put Calvert over Desiard. Calvert lost a good bit of their membership to Desiard in 19 due to upkeep issues.

Trails End - Arcadia - this may be your best bet - course will be dry and you can get a tee time at a reasonable price with a simple phone call to the pro shop

Frenchmans - sterlington - will most likely be a swamp if there is any rain -friendly staff but course is like any other early 1990 neighborhood course - easiest course by far of all listed so far

Chennault - Monroe - with all the rain, it will be a swamp but ease of access and location get it on the list.

Morehouse CC - Bastrop - will be dry but course has gone downhill every year over the past 15 years - May be cheapest option on list.

The rest are 9 hole course in Ruston, Delhi, Tallulah, Lake Providence, winnsboro, Lake Bruin and Panola Woods - of those Panola Woods is the best but it is a drive from Monroe.

What was the rationale behind that, cost?

Frenchman's Bend is in great shape and is a fun layout. Just call the golf shop for a tee time and they will be happy to hook you up. If you have any questions about the course talk to James.

Coach — After a round at Mystic Creek you won’t want to do anything other than put some ice on your crotch since it will feel like you got kicked in the nuts 18 times . . . but it’s a good kind of pain

Mystic is always in great shape and one of the best around these parts..... now other than the golf course, there's not jack shite to do in El Dorado

I remember the first time I played there. I hit a great opening drive and as I pulled up to my ball I just stood there staring. My playing partners asked what I was doing. I told them, "I honestly don't know where the frick to hit the ball. There's water here, bunkers there. It's too far to get to the green, but there's really not a 'safe' place to layup."
