They do not believe in teaching kids about religion

Teachers are hungover from Fat Tuesday.

Parents too drunk to drive them to school

Aren’t most public schools in school today? EBR and Ascension are in school.

So this government run program is a bunch of hypocrites?

Need extra days off to prepare for the long haul of 3 straight weeks of school before the next scheduled holiday

Why are they and protestant private schools like Parkview off for Mardi Gras: a catholic holiday?

EBR’s student’s parents have work. It’s filet-o-fish season.

Well, why are any of them off on the Monday before Mardi Gras?

that's a good question but being off on a Catholic holiday just seems silly and hypocritical.

A lot of Protestants observe Lent and therefore, Mardi Gras.

Why are public schools off for Christmas? Good Friday?

My kids are of course off all week.
One of the old priest tried to change things up several years ago and make the school start back on Wednesday because he believed so strongly that the kids needed to be in school so they could get their ashes.
The parents raised hell. He didn't quite understand that half the school goes to Disney this week.

These are referred to as "Winter Break" and "Spring Break."
Kind of like BC is called "BCE" (before the common era) by some people (even though the date is the EXACT same as the religous notation on a historical timeline).

We had school on Ash Wednesday when I was growing up. I think kids getting off the full week is a relatively new thing.

St Tammany is off all week. Probably a good idea considering how many south Louisiana people go on vacations this week to get away from Mardi Gras.

I have some relatives hitting the slopes in Colorado and other relatives in Disney. They said each place is jam packed with Louisiana people.
