The construction going on in downtown Nashville is insane.

Traffic? My sister lives off of Lake Austin Blvd but it's been a few years since I've been out there.

These lists are always useful to see where I don't want to live.
Living in a crowded mega metro doesn't appeal to me much anymore either.
Where's the list of decent job markets in metros under 500k with 4 seasons and low crime? That's my list.

But Nashville is ranked at 31 in wage growth. We have some hurdles to overcome. Locals are getting priced out by transplants from higher COL locations. The market here thinks COL is lower than it actually is. Housing costs have skyrocketed, but every other thing has stayed at the same price. People want to bitch about wage growth, but they're not willing to spend more money.

Why wouldn't it?
Its still southern but getting more liberal by the day with influx of younger workers.

That's most major cities in the South now. I don't think Charlotte, Raleigh or Atlanta have a strong Southern feel to them anymore either but the states as a whole certainly do. Tennessee is absolutely Southern.

I moved from one of the worst (Baton Rouge) to #2. Good move I guess
I remember a few years back New Orleans and Baton Rouge were #1 and #2 for worst prospective job outlook, I believe. That was probably 3 years ago - not sure if it has improved much or not.

Austin isn’t what it used to be. 10 years ago it was such a great place to live. Then everyone moved here and it’s slowly becoming very hard. High cost of living, terrible traffic, and everything too overcrowded.
Something as simple as going for a run or hike on one of the trails has become not worth the time with parking and people issues. Add in now that homeless can do whatever the hell they want with no repercussions and it’s just not worth being in the ‘city’ anymore.

10 years ago it was already getting annoyingly crowded. I can’t even imagine what it’s like now.
Three years ago 100 people a day were moving to Nashville, not sure what it is now.
If you're not in the medical or music industry you'll probably earn less in Nashville and have a higher cost of living. (my experience anyway)

Small to medium cities FTW.
'Nooga, Birmingham, Huntsville, Knoxville, Fayetteville, Greenville, etc.,

They are more my speed. Most cities with 150k people have everything I need.
My job pretty much exists in all of them too. I might make 15% more in Austin but that's offset by a higher COL.

10 years ago I lived in Crieve Hall (worked in Maryland Farms) and decided Nashville had gotten too crowded, so I moved my family about 40 miles to the west and found a telecommute job.
Nashville has now caught up to me.

They are still just a bit too big for my taste, but I do like being within 30 minutes to an hour of one.
I'm ~25 minutes to Huntsville (depending on traffic), 80 minutes to Birmingham, 80 minutes to Nashville, and 110 minutes to Chattanooga. Small town charm (though that's changing) with all the benefits of proximity.

Had two friends in different groups move to Chattanooga. They are both loving it.
Had another take a job in Richmond and has been amazed how much she likes it.

Asheville is better than Chattanooga, in my opinion
