I'm ~25 minutes to Huntsville (depending on traffic), 80 minutes to Birmingham, 80 minutes to Nashville, and 110 minutes to Chattanooga. Small town charm (though that's changing) with all the benefits of proximity.

Found the Hartselle baw.

Girlfriend lives there. Huntsville may be growing but honestly I cant wait to leave it. It will take this state 20 years to catch the infrastructure up to where it should be already, if it ever happens at all. 565 is a disaster.

I have worked all over the US. Hate the big cities such as LA, SF, Denver, Honolulu, etc. The traffic and COL is crazy. My favorite is a small city, the best of which to me was Cheyenne, WY. Everything I need, close enough to the mountains, and the nicest most laid back people.

Limestone county, baw.

I feel you on infrastructure. 72 is a fricking mess. I'm glad I work in town rather than commuting to Huntsville.

It's a nightmare. I work nights so I fight traffic both ways to work in reverse. Infuriating.

Seems like everyone is moving to Dallas and Denver now. It's crazy how expensive the Denver metro has gotten.

Small to medium cities FTW.

'Nooga, Birmingham, Huntsville, Knoxville, Fayetteville, Greenville, etc.,

A lot these mid sized in the South have the right recipe right now. -- That's a good list above as they're all going through major upswings while still being affordable with a heavy list of things to do in and around the city. I loved larger cities like L.A when I was younger, but now that I've got a few kids of my own I'll take the affordable up and coming mid sized city all day.

That's most major cities in the South now. I don't think Charlotte, Raleigh or Atlanta have a strong Southern feel to them anymore either but the states as a whole certainly do. Tennessee is absolutely Southern.

Yep, it has actually disproportionately held its Southern culture for a city its size. Due to the music and culture it celebrates its "Southerness"

The two hottest U.S. job markets in 2019 were growing Southern state capitals with vibrant music scenes and an influx of technology jobs.

Austin, Texas, topped the list for the second consecutive year, according to a Wall Street Journal ranking of new data collected by Moody’s Analytics. Nashville, Tenn., jumped to the No. 2 spot

Much of Austin`s early success can be attributed directly to Michael Dell. Going back to the late 1980's, it was Dell Computers that put Austin on the map. Quickly, it became a tech hub for VARs,and anything
tech related. Everyone who was anyone in the tech industry want to do business with Dell. They were the Amazon, and even today, the 3rd largest PC vendor in the world.

So yea, the influx of technology jobs in Austin today, started 35 years ago with Michael Dell.

Which have no control over the statewide policies. Pretty much all decent sized cities are liberal. Businesses like McKesson (Fortune 10) aren't leaving California for Texas because of the nicer weather or terrain. They are in search of lower taxes and less regulation than they have in CA.

Explains the current financial disaster Nashville is dealing with. This during and after the biggest economic boom in its history.

You make a very good point.

Nashville, you say?

On this date in 1862 Nashville became the first capital of a Confederate state to be captured by the U.S. army.
