re: Carolina Reportedly Making a Push for No. 1 Pick

The only team in recent memory to trade such a high pick when a future franchise qb was available was the Cleveland browns. They to had holes everywhere and were in need of a qb. They traded the pick. And stayed with RG3 and Hogan at qb. They absolutely don’t “have” to trade that pick. They don’t “have” to draft burrow and start him. I find it odd how some of you can’t grasp how hard it is to find a true franchise qb.

“Have to trade the pick” may have been a strong use of words on my part. I get that it is difficult to find a franchise qb. Again you are assuming that Joe B is a sure fire franchise qb. I’ll be honest I Thought the same way for awhile but had to think about it from different angles. The supporting cast at LSU around Burrow was so special that there is some risk with the pick. It is not crazy that they trade the pick for a king’s ransom. Especially if there is any truth to the rumors that he doesn’t want to be there.

Intangibles. All great QBs have them. Burrow has them. He would instantly make Carolina a contender.

True or not it reveals why Burrow to the Saints was always nonsense. We just don’t have the firepower to compete in the market for Joe (if that market even exists)
Posted on 2/25/20 at 9:08 am to Mpd31
I def don’t think any prospect is a sure thing. I’m not an LSU homer in the least. I’m one of the few realists you’ll meet out there when it comes to the saints and lsu. With that being said i think we can all agree that burrow is far and away the best qb prospect in this draft. I think the bengals suck but it would be dumbfounding for them to trade that pick. And especially to trade it to Carolina.
Posted on 2/25/20 at 9:10 am to 2Yutes
But it wouldn’t make the bengals a competitor instantly? Carolina has a horrible roster. They have one phenomenal player, a weak oline, bad secondary, bad line backing core, and a mediocre at best receiving core.
Posted on 2/25/20 at 9:21 am to RawDog7984
Personally, I don’t think he makes either an instant competitor. I agree with you that Joe B is the best qb in the draft. I think I just have a different thought process when it comes to building a team. At the end of the day, it will come down to if the bengals view him as their guy. The media will make up a bunch of stories in the mean time but we won’t know for sure until he is drafted.

Agree. But, did you notice how Burrow had the ability to help many others around him overachieve?
His teammates have said this on BOTH sides of the ball. It was a crazy & unique thing to hear from LSUs defense. Hell, they called him an assassin. A killer. LOL
A QB that is relentless changes teams. Notice how other talented QBs lack those intangibles...Dak, Cam, etc. The IT factor is huge in football.
I think it’s a big deal.

Burrow is a one hit wonder. He had NFL WRs, the perfect system, etc. His arm strength is a question

That would be the dolphins and their 5 first rounders over the next 2 drafts (and 3 seconds).

This is what the media does...every year...because the masses are starving for NFL news once the season ends and there is nothing interesting to talk about for much of the 3-4 months until the draft. This is particularly true this season where there seems to be no actual drama whatsoever surrounding the #1 pick. Cincy needs a QB and Burrow is far and away the top prospect at that position. Every team behind Cincy who wants Burrow is trying desperately...through the media...to fabricate bullshite to increase their very slim chances of landing Joe (such as "sources" "hinting" Joe won't play for the Bengals)
We live in a 24/7/365 news cycle where any and every bozo with a twitter account is a member of the "media". They can't just REPORT news. They have to CREATE news. That's what's going on here

Oh i get it now. They’re gonna pass on the best prospect to trade back for a plethora of picks only to package most of those picks to move back up and draft another qb. I see now.

I’m assuming you haven’t seen the Bengals play. They need an entire team. Not just a QB.
So does every team with the number one pick. But they always take the QB.

You should read what you type before posting it. Your theory was absolutely asinine.

It would cost the saints too much.
We need to move up some for Jordan love

I said if Joe told the bengals he didn’t want to play for them and the panthers offered them a kings ransom then they could take it and use their capital to get another QB if they valued you them equally or more. For example:
Panthers trade 3 1st rounders (including this years 7) and 3 2nd rounders for Joe
Then the Bengals could trade the 7, this years 39 and another 2nd to the redskins for Tua, if they valued him equally and Tua said he wanted to play for them. They’d still have 2 additional 1st rounders and an additional 2nd to build a team.
Sorry that this basic strategy went over your head, simpleton.
Point is mute with Joe saying he doesn’t mind the bengals but it amazes me that you could understand this extremely basic tactic that has been employed tons of times by nfl teams.

No it's really not.
The Colts did this a few years ago.
Traded back a few spots and still got an all pro left guard, Quenton Nelson
Now I get that the Bengals would use some of those picks but maybe they want to build a team differently.

Joe Burrow on the speculation that he did not want to play in Cincinnati: “You guys (in the media) kind of took that narrative and ran with it. There has never been anything like that from my end.”

It would be easier if the bengals were looking for a way to get Brady

Not sure why people think Cincinnati would trade the pick. They don’t have a qb.
Mike Brown, that's easy. Brown doesn't want to pay, the Browns could use the number of picks that would come from dealing the #1 pick.
