Looking at LSU's schedule for next year. Why are we playing Rice at NRG? The only positive I see is for recruiting.. Houston and surrounding areas of Texas is an important territory for LSU recruiting. Outside of that, why are we playing a neutral site game with Rice..

Recruiting? That's it? Rice at neutral site for the sole purpose of recruiting is just odd. I understand it maybe being a piece of the decision making, but to be the only reason.. against one of the worst programs in Division I.

It's very dumb, considering we are already playing @Texas A&M next season.

We should try to play one game in Texas every season. We are already doing that next season without this pointless Rice game.

Keeping that Houston pipeline rolling. Lots of LSU folks in the area. All about the continuing the footprint.

Easy. It's going to be essentially a LSU home game in terms of support, but you get to tell recruits from the Houston area they'll get to play a game in their hometown. Plus, it builds LSU's brad in the area...and area that is THE most important recruiting ground for LSU outside of Louisiana

I would much rather see us play Houston. I do not see Rice attracting a lot of big recruits. You have to have the hype to match the location, but I guess we will see. There are better teams in the state to play (Houston & SMU).

I totally understand that... I think my issue is the quality of the opponent.. Like someone else said.. are we really going to attract big time recruits to watch us play Rice..

Houston is also home to LSU’s largest alumni association.

The point is to rob season ticket holders of a home game, obviously.

Its great for Houston residents... I understand how large the LSU presence in Houston is.. I understand that this is great for LSU fans who live there.. due to the underwhelming match up.. This should be played in Tiger Stadium. It's Rice... We are playing a neutral site game with frickin Rice. lol If a better opponent, I would understand.. We are playing one of the worst programs in D-1 football at a neutral site.

I don't understand the logic of its for recruiting. NCAA rules prohibit hosting recruits at neutral site games and the team cannot give them free or low cost tickets to the game. LSU is hoping that Houston area recruits will go to the game on their own dime just to see us blow out an inferior opponent, and God forbid Rice actually shows up and does not play dead!

They should play the game at Rice Stadium. Hell they can fit 50,000+ in there.

1. It's a 2 for 1... 2 home games in Tiger Stadium and 1 at whatever venue Rice chooses

Not correct. They rented NRG because they don't use the upper decks and endzone seating at Rice anymore because of safety issues. So the stadium is configured to seat about 40,000. They chose NRG as their home stadium for this game as they did last year when they hosted Texas there.

Because Rice Stadium is outdoors and it'd be September and they don't open up their upper deck any more. And it's not a neutral site game, it's a Rice home game. They occasionally play home games at NRG on an as needed basis.

In this thread I am seeing a lot of people that aren't aware that Rice is located in Houston.

Good thing it's not a neutral site game and is a Rice home game.

To confirm, if Rice wanted this game to be played at Home, our beloved Tigers would have had to play this game at Rice... Or when this was negotiated, it was in the contract that LSU will not be playing at Rice? This is LSU, the National Champions, having to play Rice where ever they choose? This isn't UCF.. Rice's record the last 5 seasons:

3-9
2-11
1-11
3-9
5-7

We agreed to a 2-1 with that? I bet Woodward is disgusted
