Watching Oilers 30-30 and thought about 85-86 MBB

There were a ton of issues and bizarre things that happened to the Oilers that season. I wonder if the SEC Network or ESPN would do a special on the LSU MBB 85-86 season due to the bizarre happenings?
Tito getting booted.
Nakita failing out.
Chicken Pox
Dennis Brown not taking enough hours
Zoran getting hurt...
Team making the Final 4 as an 11th seed...

It was an amazing ride. They were playing at such a high level in March- that team just had a great flow. Too bad we ran into Louisville .

That team likely would have been an SEC contender, and a high tourney team, if not for losing half the season basically.
We had guys who had previously missed time, and who had taken turns leading the team to prior tournaments alone, now playing together.
If Nikita had stayed eligible, I think we win the whole thing.

That was a crazy year, but we had a good team all things you mentioned not withstanding.
I think we started the year 14-0 then lost Nikita, and the other things you mentioned.
But seniors Derrick Taylor and Don Redden were the team leaders. Sharp shooter Anthony Wilson, Ricky Blanton, John Williams...we had some talent though not deep. I think history shows our 3 teams since 81 that made the final four were all very thin depth wise and in terms of players who saw significant minutes.
Playing at home the first two games certainly helped. The practice of teams getting home tournament games in the first round was done away with the following year I think.
But beating Ga. Tech and KY the next two certainly legitimized the worthiness of this team. And we were up 8 at half against Louisville in the Final Four, they were just too good to finish off.
Great memories.

Look at the date of that cover. November 18, 1985.
4 months later that man would lead an 11 seed to the Final Four.
I've never understood why it wasn't one of the first stories the SEC network did. Don't they know the man ain't gonna be alive much longer? I know the shaq and Dale story but that was about shaq mainly.
That 1985-86 final four team remains one of my favorites to this day.
