NOLA Mayors Over the Past 18 Years

Think about this...
Nagin is by far the best and most capable mayor of New Orleans over the past 18 years. Nearly 2 decades.... It isn't even a close second. Let that sink in.

Nagin seemed to be doing ok until Katrina came along. Then he lost his damn mind.

100% agree. I think he truly snapped. It's really a shame when you go back and look at it.

We can forever thank Ole Ray for bringing Chocolate City into our lexicon.

So I got a bit of insight on Nagin because I was involved and connected to some of the highest politics at the State level at that time.
As with everyone, Nagin was blindsided by Katrina but he wasn’t prepared to navigate through a federal response, deal with the red tape or traverse communications on a national level. This was truly a ride it out, Cush local level job for him. This is what he intended and wanted. There were no bigger aspirations. Combine that with Blanco’s...RIP...ability to manage a crisis beyond the legislature...he had no support or guidance from all levels of Govt.
What happened was that Nagin was left to hang and twist in the wind by himself because he was receiving no assistance or direction from the State level. Little to no communication from the Feds.
Essentially it was more than he bargained for, knew where and how to draw resources from, etc. Truly a cush job gone bad.
Still in all of that, it could have been worse for Nola. They could have had LaToya then.

They have all had their good points and their bad points.

I'm sure the many people whose homes and businesses flooded due to the incompetence and lies of his buddy, Cedric Grant, who he hired to run the S&WB, would disagree. Landrieu did decent at first in a tough situation following Katrina and then went downhill. And his incompetence in regards to his role at the S&WB was really bad.

Trump should pardon that guy.

He is bankrupt and his wife is living on public assistance. Huge fall from grace and while Ray was a relatively good Mayor in his first term he was corrupt from the onset

Melt. Those statues coming down didn't change anything, except give Landrieu millions with his book deal. Landrieu never discussed taking them down until BLM made the idea popular. It never bothered him prior. Typical career politician.

Laundrieu didn’t do anything that didn’t benefit him or his family directly or indirectly. He was the worst Mayor ever because at least with Cantrell we know she is an idiot but Landrieu had a brain
