Cars Divide America Socially, Politically, and Economically

These damn people never give up their quest to try and divide America and destroy freedom of choice.

Urbanists have long looked at cars as the scourge of great places. Jane Jacobs identified the automobile as the “chief destroyer of American communities.” Cars not only clog our roads and cost billions of dollars in time wasted commuting, they are a terrible killer. They caused more than 40,000 deaths in 2017, including of some 6,000 pedestrians and cyclists.

But today, the car plays a central role in worsening America’s social, political, and economic divides.
quote:
America is an increasingly polarized and politically divided nation, and the car both reflects and reinforces those divisions. Car-dependent places are much more likely to have voted for Trump in 2016. Although the associations are stronger for Trump votes, the same basic pattern holds for Romney votes in 2012. On the flip side, metros that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Barack Obama in 2012 have much higher shares of commuters who use transit or walk or bike to work.

Progs are so stupid.
Maybe the author wants us confined to soviet style tenements in big cities.
Then they whine that the subways are full. Dammed ole trump voters.

What a dumbass!! Suburbs were built and THEN the cars were built to support people that moved to the burbs, not the other way around .

Crime and poor school performance may have played a small role Jane.

That dynamic has shaped Chicago politics several times.
When the weather sucks and everyone takes the train in from the suburbs, the inner city riders have to wait for multiple trains to get on.
Circa 1983, the white suburbanites doing this and black inner city riders not being able to get on helped Harold Washington win office.
The reverse of this with black suburbanites and inner city whites impacted the mayor’s race a few years ago IIRC.

Random meaningless correlation is random.

We need to start reminding these stupid leftists that the USA leads the world in:
1. CO2 emissions cut in real / actual tonnage volume
2. CO2 emissions cut as a percentage (2.9%)
We are also one of only a couple of nations to meet all Paris Accord benchmarks for each of the last 2 years (whether we are in it or not).
Suck on that, leftists - proof that free market capitalism is the best hope for mitigating "man made climate change". And we haven't even gotten into fake meat replacing 75% of factory farms within our lifetimes thanks to free market capitalism.

So urban areas vote Dem and suburban and rural vote Republican? Groundbreaking stuff there.

This is what happens when you force peds and cyclists to use same road that 2-6 ton vehicles operate on....the little person will lose every time, so it's silly to act surprised when people die. I'm all about creating pedestrian and cyclist friendly space, but forcing them to coexist with out fatalities is like forcing snakes and rats to live together and act surprised when some of the rats go missing.

It must suck to go through life constantly looking for something to be outraged about.
These people are insane.

Don't you see that cars and only cars are to blame?

So, people that live in a city where public transportation is readily available and are living close enough to work to walk and bike voted for Clinton and Obama?
Who the frick was surprised by this information?

The problem is that bringing up these arguments will make these idiots blow more Highway funds on bike paths and pedestrian bridges while intentionally neglecting the roads the money is supposed to pay for because “frick cars”.
Because most of these idiots like in densely populated areas along the eastern seaboard where the main people who can even afford to have a car in the city are the extreme rich.
