It’s hilarious how fans of the ~10 top teams in CFB are so protective of the playoff format because they know expansion will eventually mean that other teams rise up
Do you actually watch CFB? Every season since they started the stupid playoff there has always been 2, maybe 3 teams that compete and at least 1, often 2 that look completely lost (e.g. ND, Okla).
8 team playoff is too much in CFB, and a 14 team playoff in NFL is just dumb.

Why should CFB increase? It’s amateur sports involving mostly public entities. It shouldn’t be engaged in the same business model as the NFL which involves business owners rightfully trying everything they can to increase revenue.

There are only 2-3 teams in college football that can actually win a natty. The last thing we need is to expand how many teams get into the CFB playoffs. NFL doesn’t need to expand either, that’s just stupid to expand, it’s perfect where it’s at. Baseball’s format is pretty good right now too, don’t know why they want to allow more teams to make the playoffs. I guess it’s just how this country is now, everybody gets a trophy
I guess you didn't read the article. It is about making more money!

CFB needs a 6 team playoff. Top 2 seeds get byes. 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5. 1 seed gets the lowest seed to advance. You get to use all of the old BCS bowls for an important game and finishing 1 or 2 still means something. It also helps protect fans from the committee by giving 5 and 6 a chance to expose a weak 3 or 4 (looking at you, Oklahoma) theoretically resulting in less blowouts in the semis. Plus the playoffs would fill up more of the overall bowl season helping to solve the absolute snoozefest that is the early-mid December portion of the bowls. I think that's as good as it's going to get.

FB has no parity. There’s 6-8 programs that realistically have a chance to win rings often.
And if you expand the playoffs to 6-8 teams, that means those same 6-8 programs will get in just about every single year. Congratulations...you've just made the problem worse and made it easier for a 10-2 Alabama team to backdoor their way into a national championship trophy.

I mean, it's not like they have an obligation like staying eligible in school or anything?
They simply aren't enough programs that can compete at the highest level to warrant an expansion. Who wants to see a top player blow out a knee in a playoff game they're forced to play in that the team will win by 17 points or more?

14 team playoff coming for the NFL, why can't CFB increase?
Because we don't want CFB turning into the NFL.

I just want an auto bid for P5 and 1 G5 in the playoffs. Make conference championships mean something again. Who cares if some shitty ACC team backdoors their way into the playoffs and gets crushed? There are blowouts every playoffs and this would allow more Cinderella scenarios. Plus we'd get the added benefit of getting to see the Pac 12 champ lose every single season.
