For nets, current actually makes them more challenging in my opinion. Because you're always dealing with trash getting in the nets. And you get a rain and your river jumps up then your nets get destroyed.

Slat traps it doesn't matter as much because they just sit on the bottom. I have found that in current they silt in pretty quick. So I try to set mine on Sandy or gravel bottom rather than silt.

I'm thinking of trying out a net/trap in a 75 acre lake (private). It's loaded with catfish and the gar population is out of control. I'm sure I'll catch gar, but catfish is the goal. What type of net or trap would you recommend for a first timer?
