The Jim Carrey / Margot Robbie incident on Graham Norton

Carrey is the big guest, so Norton talks to everyone else then brings Carrey out. Robbie looks really uncomfortable sitting next to Carrey. She had this look on her face like she did not want to seem impressed by Carrey's outrageous personality.
Carrey immediately picks up on this and sets her up with a compliment and then lands the bodyshot.
Carrey turns to Robbie:
"I wanted to talk to you because you're AMAZING and I'm so excited for you.
It’s incredible you got as far as you have with your obvious physical disadvantages.
That’s pure talent there.”
Pretty fricking funny to watch in real time.
Of course the tweeters are in two camps:
How dare Carrey make that sexist joke.
-and-
Why was Robbie creeped out by Carrey in the first place?
The Independent

The fact that he's batshit insane probably didn't help put her at ease.

Jim just trying to help her get publicity since Birds of Prey flopped horribly.

Don’t let Jim Carrey’s career success and your nostalgia cloud your ability to see that Jim Carrey is an absolute nut case

He's an unhinged nut job. I'd be uncomfortable hanging out with him too.

Well, Carrey did kill his last GF, so I'm guessing that's why he creeped her out.

Jim Carrey is an anti vaxxer

Say what you want but his comedic timing is unreal. The way he delivered that joke was fricking classic and anyone who didnt think that was funny can go frick their unfunny self.

So the "bodyshot" was calling her hot? Eh. Nailed it.

Carrey really nailed that sociopathic a-hole Dr. Robotnik in Sonic because he was just being himself.

BTW, I wish we had Graham Norton on in the states. I follow the show on social media and the clips are always fantastic.

That was kind of entertaining. Of course JC is pretty fricked up but I don't think that's a terribly uncommon trait in actors or comedians. The pathological need for attention combined with outlandish money and tons of sycophants doesn't stabilize unstable personalities.
And I doubt MR is any worse than the average actor but assuming she's either a victim or a stable person is probably a bit more generous than we should assume.

Margot's body language was definitely chilly & closed-off: minimal eye contact, crossed legs, arms crossed (not folded) and would lean away when Jim would engage her.
Jim was obviously flirting. His body language was open: legs & arms uncrossed, torso/legs faces Margot not Graham, chest open, responds to Graham's questions by giving his replies towards Margot (& guests on couch).
Jim eventually & unsurprisingly engages Margot directly and makes the indirect "compliment" acknowledging that she's fricking gorgeous. Twitter takes it as a demeaning sexist put-down.

Isn’t the tone of that show usually for guests to kinda interact with each other and rib each other a bit?

Wow people are reading a lot into this interaction.
Nothing about her body language seemed scared or uptight to me. Her legs were crossed TOWARDS Carrey and she was leaning on the couch in his direction. These are not the body language actions of a person uncomfortable with the person they're sitting next to. She laughed at a lot of what he said. She did not seem cold or put off at all.
His joke was, in fact, pretty sexist. I won't defend it, but I think his intent was humor, not an attack. In today's climate it was in was a bad call, though.
This situation is much ado about nothing. I'd like to hear how Margot feels about the whole thing.

Because he's a weird creepy dude who allegedly drove his girlfriend to suicide?

I’m not saying JC isnt crazy, but MR looked uncomfortable and dull on Hot Takes.
