Hal Hughs - what’s missing?

Guys we want this kid to succeed in so many ways. Something seems off with him and his hitting - the fire, aggressiveness, focus. What is it? He has every resource at his disposal to improve and make something happen , progress seems nonexistent here at the start.

Unbelievable job security. No pressure to improve.

Is he dating a fat girl and too absorbed with it? What are you trying to communicate?

Talent? Ability? Competence?

He has a .333 OBP right now. What’s the issue?

His hitting approach has literally not changed in 3 yrs and he has zero confidence at the plate.

What's his approach?
Like I'm not out here defending Hughes or anything, but how do you -- as in you specifically -- identify his approach and differentiate it from other.? Is it just based on results?

Nothing is missing. He hasnt been a good hitter, even in high school

The Kid lacks natural talent and with the way Manure has Coddled him he has no incentive to get any better.

No. If you watch him he reaches on every outside pitch. Turns every one over for a ground out to short or third. I’d love to see a stat of how many of his outs are groundouts to the left side of the infield.
Second, the kid flat out gives up on anything that approaches the inside corner. I watched him raise his stupid hands and jut out his body on so many pitches that were called strikes.
Third, his fielding is the most overrated shite I’ve ever seen. Ever since Nola’s first year the thought has stuck that if a kid sucks at the plate then he’s automatically a fantastic fielder. It’s a fallacy fabrication. The kid is not a player. Deal with it

And yet the CWS winning HC disagrees.

What’s missing you ask. I’m no expert but base hits and extra bass hits seem to be missing.
