While I normally as disliked xiv posts on principle alone, I'm not really getting the hate here.

They say something we all knew already, that cultures change as they bring in things from different cultures.

And there point of their commercial? Travel and find something awesome and bring it back. Find something you love somewhere else and bring it back and share it.

Wow, that's a horrible thing for an airline to say. Promoting travel. Promoting finding new experiences. Promoting exploring.

Look, if they called some of those things cultural appropriation, then I'm fine giving them crap. But they didn't.

They are an airline that said go visit the world and find and experience new and exciting things and bring it home.

Yeah they showed people of different ethnicities. Ok. That didn't phase me.

If an American company did that type of commercial would have been much more woke and diverse. They didn't have a single lgbtqia+ person. They would be boycotted here.

I liked the ad too. You said it well. The xiv guy was just being his typical douche, though. He didn’t even take a stand on the ad.

If an American commercial said what does it mean be be American - “absolutely nothing” and that we were not better’ then our pilgrim ancestors who came and took shite..... yeah I would be pissed.

You can highlight the outside influences on an areas cultural tapestry without striking down what hey know people are proud of.

I work in Denmark a little bit - heading there in a few days. They are proud people - this was definitely tone deaf

Cultures don't drastically change. That's what culture is. Something that has maintained its way of being over time. Walking down Parade Avenue on the Fourth of July waving any flag but the Stars and Stripes is not American culture yet many people are getting comfortable with the fact that the American flag is a symbol of exceptionalism/nationalism. Those type people are not culturalists, they are interlopers.
