I'm really hoping it clicks for him. I saw they had him at 3rd base for one scrimmage. I think he's athletic enough to play there. He had a really good summer in the Northwoods league, and he's young for his class. Maybe it starts to turn for him later this season and he can ride the momentum into his junior year.

10 K's, Dam Willis
Cabrera 0.412, 2HRs, 5, he good
7 RBIs Mathis, 3 HR's, somebody wants to play
Hampton 4 SB, he fast
Dugas 0.095 ouch
Beloso 0.381 w/ 3 doubles :notbad:
C Doughty 5 HBP not scared to take one for the team

I hope so too, but I'm worried he might not even be on the team next year. It's tough to even see a position for him, even next season, on the team, unless he finally puts it all together.

And most of those are willis, who isnt starting and really doesnt seem to be in paul’s initial 12 man rotation You would think he's not even on the team by listening to Mainieri talk.
I remember Maineri saying something last year about him needing to have more of an urge to want to get better. It sounded like he was trying to coast on talent alone.
If the switch ever does get flipped, I think he can be a good one.

For sure, he has the capability to be a cleanup hitter

Small sample size but Bianco having more walks than Ks, really pleases me

That's some pretty awful numbers. It is only 20 at bats, but they struck out 17 times and only walked 3 times. I know they are going up against some great arms, but both have faced this type of pitching for a while now. I'm more worried about Willis as i think he has the bigger upside. Really hope both of them can turn it around and be big contributors.

Hughes at .313 is either super encouraging or going to be a huge let-down.

Scuba, I admire your work on here and appreciate it very much. Thanks a ton!
One question I have about Hughes' stats:
I put your stats on an Excel spreadsheet and for Hughes I have him going 5 for 14 for a batting average of .357 rather than 5 for 16 = .313.
Just a theory, Hughes had 2 sacrifices in scrimmage #9, so did you by chance include those as at-bats?
With his 4 walks, I have his on-base % = .500 (9 for 18).
Not a big deal, and I may have read your scrimmage stats wrong or entered the numbers incorrectly on my spreadsheet (although I checked them twice against your scrimmage numbers), it's just that Hughes needs all the help he can get.
ETA:Here is what I have on my spreadsheet for Hughes for each scrimmage.

Need more production at the plate from a 2B imo
Hit in the .130s last year, mid-2s this fall and under .100 this spring
I'd personally prefer the upside of Doughty over that

He was a freshmen last year and hurt, he deserves a pass for that. He hit .333 in the fall, he will be fine

I have my doubts that Willis will be on the team next year as well. Defensively he is adequate but not special. For him to play it will have to be because of his bat. Let's hope Eddie Smith can do some magic.
