4r75e valve body issues? Ford V8 transmissions (needed rebuild)

*** update. Decided to rebuild it myself after seeing lots of metal in pan.
Images page 2
Seems there fords from 00-09 seem to have transmission failure from 3-4 or whining. I thought my transmission was shot, turned out to be a broken snap ring.
So I decided while it's out I'll rebuild the valve body. One of my check balls was cracked too. Anyone mess with these transmissions? Anything special to look for ?
Ive known a few people with F150s to spend thousands on a new transmission, crazy that a full repair can be done for less than $200 including the Sonnax kit.

Subtle “I know how to fix transmissions” brag.
(Not so subtle.)

Subtle or not.. anyone that can fix a transmission is top tier in my book!!
I have some skills in that I have repaired just about every component on a vehicle.. except a transmission...

Usually the best thing to do is buy a refurbished valve body off of Ebay. They have shops that get cores then refurbish and test them. If the TCM is in the valve body you may have to get the dealer to re-program it.
If it is exterior to the valve body you can plug and play it.
I bought one for my Nissan a year or so ago and installed it with no issues. Trans shop want $2200, cost me less than $300 to do it myself.
I seems the solenoids get all gummed up and sticky on some models, causing shifting issues.

Also any truck can have valvebody issues, in GM's it's often servos or accumulator springs, Dodge its just the entire vehicle.
I put a performance-tuned valvebody in the 4R70W in my truck years ago, back when Greg Evans had Factory Tech. I also put in a B&M deep sump transmission pan, much easier to do routine fluid changes when you have a drain plug. Like any of them, change the fluid every 30k and have a good auxiliary cooler and it will last a long time.

It's baws like you that keep me humble. I don't understand a damn word you just said. Broken snap ring? check balls?
I am going to save this post just in case the transmission on my Excursion acts up.

My DD is a Toyota truck.
This is for a 308,000 Mile Ford.
Can't knock dependability with that mileage.

That's what I was wondering, I was hoping it wouldn't need much in the way of special tools.
It was $120 for the kit, I see rebuilt bodies for $250.
I like the diy aspect of the sonnax kit and reading online it should give me better than stock feel but I'm not drilling the flex plate.

YouTube and forums can teach anyone. You have to think many of the mechanical experts we pay to fix our stuff weren't smart, they just can follow processes.
Transmissions scare people because they are complex. The hydraulic valve body is one complex system then the internal drives are another complex system. The key is keeping everything organized and clean. Im only focusing on the valve body so there transmission stays on vehicle.
Im a novice and have only rebuilt one transmission ( a dodge 46re) this is just a simple valve body job.

I would check the pull on the Johnson Rod.

You didn't get 308,000 out of a Ford.

With that high mileage, do you know if the ATF was changed regularly?
