We have a Mohs surgeon at our office if you are interested.

It can spread and kill you. It's friggin' cancer.

Squamous cell carcinoma has the potential to spread and kill you if you don’t get it taken care of.

Locally destructive but a small % of SCCs can metastasize and cause much bigger problems.

People always talk about “we don’t have a cure for cancer.” Well we do have a cure for a lot of cancers....a surgical blade when diagnosed early.

Basal cell carcinomas usually just grow locally (which can cause it’s own set of problems) but rarely metastasizes. Squamous cell carcinoma and obviously melanoma most certainly can metastasize.

I got it in my late 30's on my back.
On of my best friends had the same. It spread from his back and we buried him before he turned 41

I will bet that was melanoma

This is true, but I have seen some extensive and disfiguring BCCs over the years. Get them taken care of as early as possible.

My dad has had it. He goes every few months and if they find something they freeze it off. NBD if you stay on top of it

“Tigerskin” are you a dermatologist?
Posted on 2/9/20 at 7:38 pm to buffbraz
Yeah, most definitely need to get BCC’s treated.

Yep sounds like it. Location and speed of progression are red flags.

Sweet, I’m a Derm PA and have been for the last 12 years. Couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Where do you work?

Had one on cheek below my ear about 12 years ago. Lady derm cut it out with no problem, no spread, no noticeable scarring. Go to derm every 6 months to keep any eye on things and they freeze off any suspect spots; keeps my face nice and smooth. Just got to keep on top of it. All about sun exposure.

Not that it’s a big deal, but I’d like to keep a little anonymity on here lol! We are on the Northshore.

Just last month i had a little mold, wart type thing removed from the side of my face even with about the middle of my ear sideburn area.
Came back squamous cell carcinoma.
Dr. did what he called MOHS procedure. An in-house procedure where he removes a little more tissues checks the border for cancer cells. Usually need just one sample.
Waited while they check the tissue sample, came back good, stitched me up .
Start to finish maybe 1 1/2 hrs. One hour was waited while they tested the tissue sample.
Actually have a follow up this coming week .
