Meh.

NASCAR is dying a slow death anyway. In a few years you won't see that ticker or the race on television anymore.

It’s a sad truth, and NASCAR doesn’t have anyone to blame but themselves

I don’t have any beef with NASCAR, but someone has royally fricked up the sport. There used to be household names. Jeff Gordon, Dale, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart, the Labonte brothers, etc. I never even really watched races, but could still remember who drove which car. It was all good marketing and presence on TV. It’s just not there anymore.

I think ESPN is partially to blame. You don’t get a dose of highlights from the sports landscape anymore.

Brian France screwed NASCAR. NASCAR has always been a regional sport and when he took over after his dad passed he tried to grow the sport worldwide, and in doing this he alienated the true Nascar fanbase. That and they keep changing the rules so much that even the larger teams are having a hard time to keep up financially.

We were just talking about that at work, how you just don't hear about the sport anymore. I was a casual fan, didn't plan my day around Nascar but I could turn it on and enjoy a race. Went to talladega years ago and had a blast, went to another race in Dallas a few years later.

I can maybe name a handful of drivers now, if even that many.

I was in the sport most of my life but retired in 2008. I haven’t been back to a race since. I still have friends involved that I talk to and I will occasionally watch a truck or Busch series race but I hardly ever watch a Cup race.

I could probably only name the Busch brothers now that Jimmie Johnson is retiring. In the late-90s you had true giants of the sport still racing. Earnhardt, Gordon, Jarrett, Elliot, Stewart, the Labonte brothers, Waltrip, Rudd, and on and on it goes.

Do they still 'crank it up' on restarts?

I remember my dad just blasting the surround sound when they would do that

Instead of giving the same tracks 2+ races, they should of went to places where people will show up.

Not giving World Wide technologies(gateway raceway) a race has always been stupid. The trucks and indy cars have enjoyed the track and weekend. Fans have packed the joint.

You have a track in middle of midwest/midlands where people support the product, and the state touches 8 states, who all support racing.

The NFL is doing the samething to itself that NASCAR has done with all their stupid rules changes

I work 1 mile from the Richmond Raceway and 5 years ago the parking and RV lots were full. Last fall they were empty! Sad what has happened to it.

Then you have guys like Bruton Smith buying tracks to shut them down so he can get a second race at the tracks he owns. They’ve removed most of the tracks that made Nascar.

The first Busch Grand National Race I ever attempted to run was Richmond in 1995. I had a car that was one of Davey Allison’s cars from his Busch team. Red Farmer, who was Daveys BGN crew chief went with me. There were over 70 cars trying to make a 43 car field. Now they have to pay teams to bring “start and park” cars to have enough cars to get their TV money. They already cut it from 43 to 40. They will be cutting more in the future because it costs too much money to field a car now. It costs more to field a car than all but 1 or 2 of the races pay. That’s in all 3 series.

An average Cup teams budget is around a million per race.

I’ll add to that the other two I know Ryan Newman and Martin Truex Jr.

I probably butchered the second name

Because you don't live in a trailer.

NASCAR is a white trash sport.

Pretty much every racing series in the world has gone to a leaderboard on the left side of the screen.

It works. The ticker has no place in this day and age.
