It’s crazy how some of these people forget what the Saints were and how their owner was regarded.

Bengals don’t care about winning at all, it’s literally just doing enough to maintain the franchise

Where has someone held up the Saints as a model organization

If you mean because they got an elite QB, Brees was a veteran pro bowler already. There were other circumstances post Katrina that helped them improve the organization, namely improvements to the dome and other concessions from the state.

ETA: The Saints original owner is great example of what people are talking about with Mike Brown. He was a moron that was cheap and didn't care about winning. When Tom Benson bought the team, he hired an established GM in Jim Finks and no coincidentally they had their first winning season and some pretty good teams in the late 80's and early 90's. Of course they never won a playoff game, some of that is bad luck, maybe Mora was just a so so coach, but it was a different world, in the pre cap days they Saints had one of the higher payrolls.

One of those was wide receiver A.J. Green, who was on an expiring contract last season. The Bengals opted to keep Green instead of dealing him for a pick that could have been used in the draft filled with quality receivers. Instead, the Bengals are working toward a deal that will keep the 31-year-old Green in Cincinnati, at least for another season.

"We are not trying to get better by losing our best players," Tobin said. "In our opinion, that's not the path forward. Lose your best players, how do you get better by doing that?"

Yeah they're going to screw this up somehow. If Tobin can't understand why trading Green made sense for them as a rebuilding team then they have no hope. Burrow should refuse to play for Cincinnati

Because every player, no matter how good they are, has a value attached to them. There comes a point in pretty much every player's career in which his price tag exceeds his value. As a GM, you are in violation of your duty to improve the team when you continue to pay these players with no regard for their value.

The Bengals have made the playoffs 6 times in the last 10 years. Didn’t win a fricking playoff game but that’s hardly not trying.

They won 2 games last year and lost 8 by 1 TD or less. Their #1 draft pick in 2019 didn’t play a snap due to injury.

They essential have 2 first round picks and burrow can succeed there.

What?

The point is the Saints were a trash organization all the way around before a few changes and the owner was not one of them. If the fricking New Orleans Saints can go from what they were to what they are now. Anyone can do it.
