Does this mean they'll finally stop using the exact same template they've used every single game since GTA III?

They’ve become a different company since they’ve decided to start worshipping at the altar of micro transactions.
A little shake up could do them some good.

Microtransactions are the last thing I think about in regards to Rockstar games.

Slower release schedule. No single player dlc. MP modes that rely on money grinding.
I don’t hate rockstar but they’ve been trending in a lame direction.

The lack of single player DLC has been very disappointing.

I finished GTA 5 for the first time last night. Definitely would love more story with those guys. Perhaps some DLC centered on Lamar and Franklin, with Franklin bringing him in on actual scores.

This.
I have also played GTAV online since launch in different periods on and off and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. There are microtransactions but I’ve never bought any and I have most things in the game that I actually want.

I played gta online off and on for a few years and enjoyed it at first. It has become exceedingly transparent that it was engineered to sell shark cards to impulsive people, and I eventually grew to despise it.
I feel like all people do is run product or grief those that do with their rocket bikes. Tiresome.

I grind setups for 10-12 hours a week and never encounter this largely because I play with in a crew only lobby.
I do agree that public lobbies for the most part suck.

I finished RDR2 last night - started it December 21 on PC and finished February 5. Had it for PS4 at release and didn't even get out of Chapter 2.

The biggest problem with GTA online is the grind for money just isn't worth it for what things are costing. Most of the missions really aren't that entertaining. The heists can be fun, but most of them you need to buy some $2-3M piece of property just to do them. If you don't have a ton of time to play the game, you are kind of stuck being poor with very little to do.

Well I got tons of hacker money back in the day. I own tons of shite, and when I found out RS would take money away, I bought like 30 of the most expensive cars and put them in my garages, then drove them to sell and made about $800K each. Turned hacker money in in-game earned money.
Even back then if you wanted to avoid hackers you couldn't. You'd get money and levels for free constantly.

Yeah, you either sink in more time than I’m willing to invest or you pay for access. It was fun for a while, but I’m over it.
