Earning 60k a year and my wife will be making about 45k. We are a late 20s couple with 1 child. Can we afford to live here?
I’m looking in the Manchester/Concord area right now. Pretty pricey.

Yes, you’ll be able to afford to live there. It’s a nice area, you’ll enjoy it. Easy trips to Maine, Vermont, and Boston

I’m in Manchester now. Loving the area. Wife is from Massachusetts. This is my longest time spent in NH and I enjoy it significantly more than Connecticut (where I went to college).
ETA: Abita, can I get your email?

Next time you need to figure out the latter before doing the former!
Congrats man. Of course you can afford to live off of $105k a year. Its just a matter of your standard of living, lifestyle, home location, etc.

The area around White River Junction, VT/Hanover, NH is pretty nice. Quechee Gorge, the old Shaker community at Enfield, the King Arthur Flour baking education center & cafe....plenty around there for a long weekend vacation.

VT/Hanover,
Visited Dartmouth for work a couple of years back. Fell in love with the area. Been trying to find an excuse to go back ever since.

Are you looking north/south (I-93) or east/west (202 or 101)?

I've been to New Hampshire twice, and I'm a fan. I'm jealous of you, friend. You're going to enjoy living there.

Go and don’t look back you lucky bastard.

I will be working in the city of Concord.

You get any beers at Strange Brew?

Concord is a great town. The outdoor activities in that state are amazing. Enjoy!

New Hampshire is awesome! We live in Boston and go often to visit our friends there.
There are beaches and skiing and breweries and you're super close to Boston and Vermont. You can take the train basically anywhere in New England, or at least drive there in a few hours. I think you're going to love it up here.

Thank you! I very much plan on it. My wife and I are huge outdoor enthusiasts and we have very limited options and scenery where we currently are. Louisiana is amazing for hunting and fishing but doesn’t offer much more than that.

Get out and enjoy it, but take precautions for Lyme Disease since NH is much worse than Louisiana.
quote:
New Hampshire continues to have one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the nation
and ~60% of blacklegged ticks sampled in NH are infected with Borrelia burgdorferi, the
bacterium that causes Lyme disease.
Lyme disease is transmitted by the bite of the deer tick, also known as the blacklegged tick.
Although these ticks have a 2-year life cycle, the greatest risk for human acquisition of tickborne
diseases is between May and August when the aggressive nymph stage of the blacklegged tick
is active. Nymphs are very small (< 2mm) and easy to miss unless they become engorged with
blood.
Over the last decade, reported Lyme disease cases have increased significantly in NH. In 2014,
there were an estimated 1,415 new cases of Lyme disease in NH. The highest disease rates
occurred in Rockingham, Strafford and Hillsborough counties. Compared to national data from
2013 (the most recent available), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports
that NH had the second highest incidence rate of Lyme disease in the United States (100.0
confirmed cases per 100,000 population). Only Vermont had a higher rate of reported disease in
2013.

Jealous. Would love to find a decent job in that area.

Yes and congrats

Pricey? Are you kidding me? I did a simple Zillow search of Machester, NH capping the results at $400,000, and there were a plethora of great options that popped up.
Think about it for a moment. Currently, money is extremely cheap. Oh, and it's New Hampshire. I highly doubt you'll have to fret and worry about crime and poor public schools...
Pricey my arse.
