a touchdown and before kickoffs, the band would end the Fight Song, and the tubas would just hold the note until kickoff and when the ball was kicked, the entire band would play a chord.
The note was held until the extra point was kicked, not until the kickoff. Everyone knows that.

So this chant is unique to LSU originally ?

The “You Suck” chant followed several years after that. Don’t know exactly when.
The chanting started sometime after I was done with my TB stint, which was 02. But, yes, the Tuba part started before my time.

Better question, when and who started STTDB chant?

I seem to recall a time right around there where after TD and before kickoff, the tubas would play two notes I think G flat and B continuously (bom booom) the drums played dum dum-dum, dum dum-dum, and the crowd would go “whoop whoop”.
Am I out of mind on this?

Don’t know who but I believe it was around 2009 or later. Before that, neck was played but no chant. Just the arms in the air.

It was started back in the early forties when I was there. Shortly after wizard of oz. I remember it distinctly.
ETA. It was a joke.

Lol. That was a joke.
I’m only 36 and I went to East Carolina.
But I do remember it from when we played dark side of the moon to wizard of oz.

It is the guards chant from the Wizard of Oz. According to the actual script, it says: “O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!”
