You might not once you see his paycheck.
And that's all it comes down to for Rinaldi.
Greed wins over decency.

Before him, it was others. Roy Firestone, Bob Ley, even Stuart Scott.
Rinaldi is taking it to the next level. It's literally his entire reputation at this point now.

You’re a Lakers fan correct?
I don't follow the NBA very much.
Casual fan at best. I watch like maybe 5-10 NBA games a season and a good percentage of that is on holidays with the fam when nothing else is on and the finals in june.

He’s not doing anything wrong. I’m not a fan of his segments, but there’s obviously a demand for them. I’m sure ratings during his segments justify their existence. If all you get from the reporting today is that you think Tom is some vicious media member thirsting for a tragic story because it makes him money, then I feel bad for you.
Watch your local news, or national news. It doesn’t matter. Most of the stories that generate ratings are negative events.

I mean to be fair the victims/families don’t have to say yes to the stories

Wait, you think it's all about today and Kobe for Rinaldi that's my problem here?
God no, I'm talking about Rinaldi's reputation as a ghoul that constantly chases after sad stories to put on gameday while still calling himself a sports reporter.

Well yeah, that's what he is.

I don't care.

Never said I had a problem with the families. I'm just not pretending those are done out of the goodness of the heart for Rinaldi and his employer.
Yeah, the sad melancholy eyes, straight face and the busted cheesy British laugh/smile definitely works wonders to convince them. ESPN has a good investment in him.
Doesn't make him any less of a ghoul.

Tom Rinaldi has become a poor man's Jim Cantore. If he shows up in your town, shite has either gone down or is about to go down.

Wtf?
Doing heartfelt pieces is a bad thing?
Whatever moral high ground you think you’re on, you’re far lower.

It's gotten to the point where every time I see him on the screen, I assume that someone has cancer, died in a tragic accident or something sad is going on.
Yeah but he has also shared a lot of stories that are worth sharing like the Tyler Trent story.

What do you know about Tom Rinaldi that leads you to this conclusion?
Or, are you just a negative person in general so you assume the worst in others because you think everyone is negative like you?

I despise Tom rinaldi
Agreed. Guy tries way too hard, his tributes are obnoxiously saccharine. At this point there's no genuine emotion in them, just Rinaldi doing the same exact tear jerker routine.
Can't stand the tone of his voice, his corny dialog, or the inflection pauses or any of his other worn out shchitk.
Just like ESPN's other obnoxious personalities, he cares more about his routine than anything.

So now he’s supposed to have a glowing smile while discussing hardships, death, disease, etc?

I’m not a Rinaldi fan, but that’s because the segments can be a bit much for me to handle at 10:00 AM on a gameday.
In regards to his “schtick”...what do you suggest he do? How would you prefer the stories be told?

You might want to do a deep dive on the funeral industry.

It's not really a shock that people, including me don't think Rinaldi and ESPN does "heartfelt pieces" out of the goodness of their heart.

You're talking about moral high grounds when I'm not the one that goes trolling for sad stories to put on gameday every weekend for a paycheck.
Rinaldi has a reputation at this point as the ESPN's dealer of sad stories and peddling misery. It's a reputation he's willingly taken on.
There's no use denying that and arguing against it.

Imagine taking criticism about the performance of an ESPN reporter so personally that you tell people to kill themselves and insult them as well.
That's a move.
