Antique Roadshow find. Guy buys a Rolex in the early 70’s for $345.97 he decides it is too nice to wear so he sticks it in his safety deposit box. Finally pulls it out and takes it in to be appraised by the guys at the Antique Roadshow. Now worth between $500,000.00 to $700,000.00.
He paid about 1 months salary for it when new.

Now estimated to be worth

FIFY.

Also, not sure what $700,00.00 is exactly worth.

I like that watch, but my wife would be mad if I bought it without discussing it with her first.

Imagine if he’d have put that $350 into bitcoin back then.

Is this one of the Rolex models they gave to the astronauts?

Why is it worth so much? Rare? Condition?

I wonder sometimes what goes through someone’s mind to buy something like that and lock it away for 40+ years? Be it a nice watch or a muscle car or whatever else.

What really gets me thinking is how many other people did the same thing and whatever it is they bought didn’t appreciate. And how many absolutely worthless pieces of 50s , 60s, or 70s era things there are out there in mint condition.

Kind of thinking in the same vein of what if kids my dads age didn’t put baseball cards in their bike spokes as kids

My boss has an old Steve McQueen Daytona like that. He said his dad bought it on leather originally. The original strap is toast but the watch should still be worth 6 figures.

I'm doubting the "unworn" claim.

I would have bet $500,000 that that chewbacca looking motherfricker with a camo headband didn't have a rolex.

How does the label on the back get faded all the way down, and this watch never been worn?

I like Antiques Roadshow but a lot of their experts are off on the value of items. People also bring it items that they know are worth a lot of money but pretend they don't.

Can't believe this guy has had a 6263 for all those years and hasn't even enjoyed it. Hope he sells it so someone can give it the love it deserves. I'm not a huge Daytona guy, but people think the 6263 is a grail watch.

He can make a ton of money and someone can get one of the most coveted Rolexes on the market. Win-win for everyone involved.

ETA: There are a ton of people capable and willing to pay $500,000 for this particular watch. As stated, many consider it one if the best Daytona designs of all time .
