I think I found why

I'm not discrediting it, I'm trying to understand what goes into it and how the final number is come to.
I could make a top ten list and put arbitrary numbers on something, and if people think the players on the list are worthy, then I can call it "WLR" for waterlink ratings and apply it to every other player.
I need transparency. I'm just asking how these numbers are calculated, I want it broken down so I can understand. I'm not going like the other guy and saying it's a shite stat, I'm honestly interested in understanding what it is because I can't blindly believe something.

Baseball just sucks anyway. Fans care more about fake numbers than entertainment then cry about cheating even though it’s omnipresent.

Type in WAR on wiki. They have diagrams for the different ways. It really is cool looking at all the different Stat companies that measure it differently. Most are still relatively close to the same.

Stop with this nonsense. He had an opportunity for free agency but he passed it up because the Angels offered him a bag of money and he took it. If he prioritized winning, he would have waited to hit free agency.
Most of these players take the money, and I don’t blame them. But it’s also why I never feel sorry for a star player whose team doesn’t win.

Like all man-made formulas, it’s subject to the biases of the creator and what they value/devalue.
For instances, passer rating in the NFL values preventing negative (completion percentage and int%) more than it value accomplishing positives (td% and ypa).
All these attempts to boil down a player’s value/contributions are futile.

I feel the same. Don't discredit it because it's widely accepted now. Just don't grasp it and haven't really studied it.
I play fantasy baseball and it doesn't help there necessarily. Normal counting stats do.
Following baseball I just watch the games and keep up. The best teams will be in the playoffs then I pay attention more. WAR doesn't really matter much to me in that respect. Trout is the greatest player currently playing by everyone's account and WAR says so as well. However, it's primarily a singular stat to compare single players. Trout has won nothing so his WAR isn't really translating to the part of baseball that truly matters, winning.

Baseball also isn’t a sport where one player can carry a team to championships. Baseball isn’t like the NBA where one HOF player can have you winning titles. Trout hasn’t really been surrounded by a decent team. This coming year should be a decent season for them though.

Maybe agree with you on WAR, I hope I never see that on game broadcasts, but what’s the issue with Walks + Hits / Innings Pitched?

Lol in what universe is WHIP anything like WAR?
Walks+Hits/Innings pitched is not some super analytical statistic and it’s been used for a long time. Way before the Sabermetrics explosion

But if everything is cyclical when are saber metrics going away?

That's like asking when basketball players will start taking more long 2's and when football coaches will start punting on 3rd down again.

WHIP has been around forever.
Advanced statistics like wRC, FIP, and SIERA are how players are measured by many front offices. Guessing these stats will stick around

What exactly goes into WAR? I've tried looking it up before but I can never find a conclusive way they come up with these numbers. And because of that I have a hard time buying into it
The basis of WAR is the Run Created stat. About 30 years ago, it was discovered that a formula could predict the number of runs a team scored amazingly well.
The original formula was ((Hits + Walks) x Total Bases)/(At Bats + Walks). Modern formulas are weighted by year, ballpark, ect., but this formula is extremely accurate.
So if you can take these basic stats to predict how many runs a team scores, you can apply them to individuals to see how many runs they create for their team.
It has also been observed that you can predict the number of wins a team has by looking at the runs it creates and allows. So by applying that to individuals, you can determine the number of wins a player is worth.
The numbers are extremely accurate for offense and pitching, and are usually close among all the different types of WAR. The big problem is how to quantify defense, and many times the disparity in WAR is due to the inscrutable nature of compiling defensive stats by different statisticians.

So everyone will just choose to have less info and go back to the old school ways? I bet you thought the internet wouldn't last.

That seems like it would lead to confirmation bias
