Then one year later China will have a population of 1,400,000,000 people

I gotta say - with a threat of a major pandemic looming, I am glad a no-BS man like Trump is president instead of someone who would take a sit and wait kind of approach. This shite gets out of hand and he will ban all incoming flights/trains/ships into this country until it’s over.

A scientist at Johns Hopkins last year modeled what would happen if a deadly coronavirus reached a pandemic scale.

Except, um, this virus is not very deadly [so far].

SARS killed 1 in 10 people infected; MERS 1 in 3. Wuhan is killing about 1 in 30 people infected, mainly old people or people with other health issues.

Can this flu get airborne and into the solar system which would end the world as we know it?

What if it is 10 times more contagious than SARS though?

Eventually a new flu will knock out some significant % of us, like aggressive flus do.

Worst case estimates are that about 600 million people would die from a novel flu strain before a vaccine could be created and distributed around the world. Influenza viruses don’t mutate nearly as fast as do corona viruses.

This means that a vaccine is likely not an option for this new virus. A deadly strain of corona virus could cause havoc. Fortunately, their propensity to mutate easily also works in our favor. A mutation could cause the virus to become either deadlier, remain as deadly or become even harmless to humans. It’s a crap shoot.

I read they already started working on one, but it would be a year before it was available.

Scientists have been working on a vaccine for SARS and MERS (hit in 2012) ever since these viruses got into the human population, too, but without success. Corona viruses just mutate too quickly for a vaccine to be effective. Our best hope is that it’ll mutate into a much less harmful pathogen.

And by then it’ll mutate and be fully human-to-human and the vaccine will be ineffective

Doesn’t take much for this corona virus to mutate, making it much more deadly and contagious. It could explode to a deadlier virus on a global pandemic level.

1 in 30 in China doesn’t seem like much. 1 in 10 with the virus widely spread throughout the U.S. is scary as hell.
