Kris Richard or Bo Pelini for DC?

I think the leading candidate is Richard, due to being a Pete Carroll disciple, but Pelini's name keeps surfacing as well. Maybe Pelini is the choice if Richard is hired by a new NFL HC. There are many new NFL HC's that haven't filled out their staff, and Richard may be wanting stay in the NFL as a DB coach. Carroll's defenses are known to play a more zone scheme, and force you to make long drives to score and force you to make a mistake as in INT or fumble. Pelini's defenses at LSU were attacking. Send the DL on stunts and blitzing the LB's and Safeties, forcing your CB's to play man coverage. LSU has the CB's to play man coverage.
In 2011 Pelini hired Raymond as his secondary coach at Nebraska. In 2012, Raymond left NE for LSU. So Raymond is familiar with Pelini's defensive scheme already.

I like Richard, but if he's just going to bolt back to the NFL in 1-2 years, what's the point?
Pelini on the other hand hasn't coached a defense in 12 years and is a certifiable lunatic.
I can't say I'm thrilled with either option.

They rave about him so much that he's been stuck at Youngstown St for 5 fricking years?

The thing is about this statement...College teams to me seem to be more conservative...Pro teams take more risk throwing down the field....i just think with the guys we have in the back of defense...zone would be doing them a disservice

You need to stop making a thread every other hour about the same thing.

Pelini's last season at LSU paid him $400,000. His current deal at Youngstown State is $200K per season. LSU could pay him $1 million per season, and bank the $1.5 million in savings from Aranda's prior salary.
Bo may not want to uproot his family though. He's all about family, even from his prior time at LSU

On the morning of the biggest game of his career, college football’s top assistant coach is standing on a grass field, watching a bunch of 8-year-olds play soccer. Across town, many of the 92,000 fans who will attend LSU’s showdown against defending national champion Florida are already stirring gumbo and guzzling Miller Lite in the parking lot at Tiger Stadium. But to Bo Pelini, that game is no more important than the one he’s at now – mainly because his son, Patrick, is among the players trying to kick the ball into the net. ”It’s fun watching your kids grow up,” Pelini, who also has two daughters, says later. “Baseball, t-ball, gymnastics, ballet. I try not to miss anything.” LSU’s defensive coordinator pauses for a moment and grins. ”But,” Pelini says, “I do think a few people get freaked out when they see me standing on the soccer field the morning of such a big game.”

I don’t know what to make of either one. My stupid brain will be talked into either. But there’s concerns for both.

That 8 year old is now in college. Not sure about the daughters.
